OK, I guess I have to find top dead center on the number 1 piston which would be the rear cylinder, make sure that the timing dots are lined up together and at the top? OK, so now what do I use to get that keyway in? I look at that diagram that Woods has and showed how it was offset and showed cam rotation, but how do I know when I have gone 4*?

The gear has to come off and the straight up key taken out, your new offset key put in,then when you re install the gear over the key and line up the dots,it will be in the 4deg advance position...
Were there no instructions with the key?? What I don't know is whether it's the outer gears or the inner gears the key goes in....

once set at tdc pull cam gear . remove key with a brass drift . install new key so that the cam shaft drive will be off set to the left and cam gear will still line up dot to dot with crank drive gear. if the cam drive is off set to the right you will be retarded! once you pull it apart it self explanatory. the key is what shifts the cams not you so you cant screw this up . one way is advanced one way is retarded.

Ok, now this makes sense to me. Just making sure before I get it al tore apart and I panic. Thank God for having more than one motorcycle. I will do it on Monday then. I have to go work. :(

Can I use a brass hammer and a brass punch to install that key?
