What Mfr. has the cheapest and best overdrive (6th gr.) installation kit?

I am looking to install it myself. I realy don't want to buy a new tranny for 3 grand if I can help it.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Tom

Rev tech is the least expensive that I've seen.

    Baker makes the better stuff.

You can get insert kits to do the work yourself.

Don't go too deep on the overdrive.

New baker DD6 is a direct drive in 6th but they lower the ratio in the primary and change the gears 1-5 to get the acceleration back.

    Thanks HRK,

I am only looking into overdrive for long trips.

I found a good price for the RevTech trans at . It has a .893:1 trans ratio for 6th and that puts me perfectly at 2950rpm at 80mph. The best thing is it is cheap enough to just go with a complete transmission swap instead of rebuilding it. The draw back is that the 1st gear is taller which is good for shifting between 1 and 2 but is a little bit harder on the clutch... I think that is how it was designed to work. Anyway I 'll find out when I try it.

Do you know if the RevTech has a good dependability record??

    Thanks again forthe reply
    Tom

Rev Tech is good, they had some issues early on but they work haven't heard too many bad things on the net.

Make sure you shift up to pass out of 6th to 5th so you don't lug the motor.

Call Chicago Harley for a quote. I purchased my 6-speed gear set from them at 10% discount from the catalog price, and no tax because I am from out-of-state.

But, of course, check with DP first. They may be able to do better for you.

What the #$%$? Is DP chopped liver?

One of the more irritating things about owning and running this BBS is the occasional unintentional lack of respect shown to the host, Direct Parts. We have some pretty basic rules here. Respect your fellow members, do not flame and do not post porn or offensive material. We also have one simple rule regarding SPAM. Do not do it whether intentional or not. This includes posting URL's or links to competitors sites or pricing and mentioning competitors sites.

    Simple rules really aren't they?

    http://biketalk.directparts.com/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post#faq_ads_policy

It costs money to run, upgrade and host this BBS and to sponsor the Bike Talk ride every year. So, we have those simple rules we ask all to comply with.

Additionally, we have tremendous buying power and thousands of parts on line and pretty good pricing. We would appreciate it if we had the oppurtunity to at least quote a sales price on a product prior to a member buying elsewhere. We are in the top five dealers with Drag Specialties, CCI and are V&H largest retail shop so, are costs are less than most of our competition.

A simple e-mail to sales@directparts.com can get you a quote on expensive items that is less than the auto generated pricing on line.

Not in my book, especially after the thousands of $$ I have spent with DP, and the good input gotten from the staff.

just to be clear as I don't want to send people to other sources however

when it comes to machine work for heads boring cylinders do you have any problems with links to shops that do the work.

also if they say they have tried DP but you don't source the part, is it ok to link them to say a manuf of the part.

Just want to play within the rules.

I have no problem with links to say SBC as part of information on head work for example. If there is a product that we do not sell I have no problem with links to the manufacturer.

I want this to be the most informative and friendly place possible. I just do not want to loose sales that help support the site. Even a Drag part number or CCI etc will help the poster get the info they need.
