I have a 1984 HD roadster which runs fine except as I ride, the choke comes out. This has the effect of the bike running at about a quarter throddle, even when the throddle at the handlebar is completely off and results in a dangerous situation. How can I stop this from happening?

Is the choke handle vibrating out ?or just the butterfly closing ?

Might need to have a new cable,
on my CV that would happen if you
improperly set the tension screw on the back of the cable
where it connected to the tank

If you have the same cable, adjust the screw behind the
tank mount and then retighten the front screw on the cable

HDguy, are you new to Harleys?
How did you end up with a 1984 model H-D?
Do you have a manual for it?

I had the choke adjuster nut that got cracked and did the same thing, would not stay tight. I simply replaced the chock cable and worked fine. Good luck.

Maybe that's why the S&S carbs don't have a choke cable or adjuster nut... They break!

SNS carbs are good, but old style

I prefer the CV carb over them, and the Mikunis as well

With the CV I got a lot smoother tq curve, less dips
and better fuel mileage and driveability..

Not a shot at SNS but if you stick a CV on
one of the shovels you'll never go back....

if the tension adjuster is not enough . try to crimp it just so slightly with pliers to ad some drag tension to the cable so it wont vibrate out .

Will they work on a 93 ci motor?
When I'm cruising slow and I hammer the throttle the bike hesitates slightly before jumping, what could be the cause? Accel pump needs adjusting?
