'84 qualifies it as an antique. Have it checked out by a qualified mechanic. Hard to beat a Harley, old or new! I owned a '72 ironhead - great bike.

What do you mean by big gaps in the tranny? Can't compare an old H-D 4 spd with a Japanese 5 or 6 speed. You could be making a good trade if the Sporty is solid.

Find a local Indy with a good reputation and get him to check it out...could be a very solid bike, could be constant tinkering too(do you like wrenching??)... How much is your sport bike worth??...

    Also..... we like pics:D

Yeah I'm tech at a ford dealer . I'm good at working on Japanese bikes. My Cbr has a salvage pink . It's been fixed up from dyno tune to levers ect.. Bike might be worth 3. To 2900ish bike is. Very fast 130 horse to back tire. I rode the sporty yesterday starts up evey time perfectly . It was in the shop. It had new cams put in and carb done new bars levers arlen ness chrome grips bike is most oem . The bike seems to bog if to crack the throttle quick. And the shifter has play in it in . It's not that fast its like a tractor but very comfortable. Starts on a dime thoe! I heard its very hard to get parts for iron heads?

Both bikes worth approximately the same...The bogging is nothing serious, just tuning...same with the shifter,as long as the play is in the linkage and not in the tranny,no big deal there either...
Parts are available, just not at the dealer....aftermarket and still lots of NOS around...if you do the deal make sure you get a factory service manual and parts catalog, they'll be your best friends at times...Good Luck...let us know how it goes....then post some pics....:D

Well looks like I won't be Geting it lol he told me to sell my bike for 3k then buy his bike lol his bike is worth 2500 maybe my nap bike is super nice . Guy told me at first he wants to trade then says sell my bike and buy his lol I was ticked off and told him to kick rocks ! He thinks that bike is worth money lol I talked to ton of chopper shops they said thoes bikes are junk. Stay away from it half the shops say they won't even work on iron heads because they will be married to it . And the shifting problem is a bushing in the Trans and the forks are leaking too . I took my rice rocket out in the canyon yesterday and had a blast ! I'll just keep it and later I buy a real Harley such as a soft tail or rode king. That iron head sportster is as good as a go ped!!! Lol thanks for all you info thoe!!

Those bikes are bad ass ! in the correct hands with the proper knowledge and a customer thats willing to pay the wrench in the proper manner they wont be married to it at all . like all harleys if the correct person is wrenching on it it will run problem free . do the proper maint. it will run forever .
