Hey Guys, my father is trying to do the CV carb upgrade to his 1987 Harley FLHTC. The only problem is that we cant seem to find the proper Throttle and Idler cables. The stock 87 cables had way to little travel, so we picked up a set for 1990 - 1995 FLHTC and even adjusted for the most travel they where way to tight and would not let the grip to snap back. With only the throttle cable installed the grip moves freely but the the cable doesn't have enough travel to let the bike snap back to idle.

If it matters the carb is a 27421-99c, and we did try and lube the cables.

Any help would be much appreciated.

are the cables installed in the grip correctly? are the cables routed correctly? do you have the pull and push cables in the correct spots? is the spring in the throttle cable slot on the carb? correct side? the problem was there before you attempted the swap.....need to find out why they were faulty in the first place....let us know..

I think I may have just answered my own question after just now finding some good side pics of stock 27421-99c carbs.

The carb was rebuilt before we purchased it, and it seems that the bracket where the cables get seated is taller then the stock one. Kind of feel dumb for not noticing earlier.

Everything was properly installed, I think the fact we assumed the cable bracket was OEM messed everything up a bit.
