    Well, I love the way my bike runs after all the stage 1 stuff, and carefull dyno tuning pushed the torque and HP up about 20%. But I guess you just get used to things, and now I would like a little more. I know the 1200 conversion would be areal kick in the tools. But the problem is that I still have almost 2 years on the factory warrenty, and if I do this myself-- the warenty is blown. I definitely don't want HD to do it. Anyone have any comments on whether or not it is worth it? Thanks.

    Unfortunately there's no way around it. Unless you let the dealership do the work the factory won't honor the warranty. Some will argue that you can still do this kind of upgrade and maintain the warranty, but if the moco challenges your claim be prepared for a fight.

    Guess it depends how important the warranty is to you.

    re: whether or not it is worth it?

    I did mine 6-months after taking possession, but that was back in 2001.
    I bought the 883 with the intent to go to 1200, so once I knew the bottom-end was without issues I went for it;
    screwed the rest of the warranty, but in my case it was only a 12-month issue, and four of those months would have been spent
    inside a shed with snow on the ground.
    But that's just my nature ..... :cheers:

    Hey Dapiglet-- Thanks for the thoughts. I pretty much feel the same way about the warrenty, and afetr checking with HD, it seems that they won't honor any issues related to the conversion, even if HD does it! So I am thinking more and more about doing it anyway after the end of this riding season (here in New Mexico the riding season is about 111/2 months). But how do feel about the results? Worth it? What parts did you use? Thanks.

    Strange situation when the HD dealer won't stand behind their own work !
    My local dealer does conversions all the time, using Wiseco pistons,
    and the warranty is still fully honored by them.....

    I used Wiseco dished 9.5:1 pistons and a set of 1200 cylinders.
    If I had it to do again I'd go with 10:1's.
    Check on the www/Sportster.org site for feedback for FI models
    and tuning issues.

    IMHO it is the absolute best bang-fer-yer-buck.
    The basic 1200 from HD was more than $2200 above the 2001 883's;
    the upgrade ran less than $500, .... simple math.

    :cheers:
