Where is the whine coming from? Nose cone area? Does it vary by RPM or cold to hot?

You can isolate the sound by using a wooden dowel and placing one end on your ear and the other at different points of the engine. Or, get an inexpensive mechanics stethoscope at your local auto parts.

Could be an outer cam bearing, cam gears, debris in the breather....

On the cam (nose cone) side? or the output (primary side)?

Have you checked the primary shoe, chain etc already?

Compensating sprocket may be loose, primary chain tensioner may need adjusting. a whine sounds like the chain adjustment is out.

Should be able to move it 5/8 cold 3/8 hot, (top chain up.)
