Hi, i'm new to bike-talk so please be patient. I recently purchased a 97 883 sportster. When riding it home 5 miles from where i got it the thing quit on me. I pulled the plugs and found it to have very weak spark so i bought NEW plugs and no change. Next i bought a NEW harley coil and NEW wires and still no change. I was told it was probably an ignition module so back to the harley dealer i went and got a NEW one. Still no change have very weak spark. :banghead: At this point i have swagged a coil, plugs, wires, and ignition module at this thing. I'm at my wits end. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

behind the timing cover you will find the pick up that sends the rpm signal to the module it is prob all melted very common on the sporty for it to melt . if the pick up is weak . it will not send a good signal to fire the coil also look at the pick up connectors before replace ment the run along the frame and hacve a weather pack connector they sometimes get all sulfated hope this helps. all the best keep the shine side up:cool:

Never even thought of that...the pick up sensor is the only thing he hasn't replaced...a lot of people think it either works or it doesn't....

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED ME! It was the ignition pick-up sensor that was faulty.
