Last July, my wife and I took our son to a goalie training camp in Canada. He loves his ice hockey but there isn't alot of specialised training in New Zealand. It was also a chance to look up on 4 families whose kids we had billeted the previous year during a Friendship Hockey tournament.
We had had a ball with the Canadians and I had taken one of the guys, Dave, for a trip up the coast from Dunedin, as far as Moraki Boulders. I let him take my 1200 Sporty and I rode my other son's CBR 250.
Anyway when we got to Canada, Dave put Devin and me on his 96 Dyna and we had a bit of a cruise around Aldergrove in BC. We were going to go up to Whistler but the roads were all torn up for repairs and as time was short we headed to White Rock. Not a big ride but alot of fun and a good chance to see a bit of the countryside.
While the wonderful people we were visiting took my wife and I out for a tour around the place, Dave turned Devin loose on his chopper, after ascertaining he could ride okay. He was 17 at the time and on a restricted NZ licence but has been riding dirt bikes since he was about 10. He had a ball, as can be seen by the pictures I've attached. We usually dress up a bit more when we go riding, but somehow this got overlooked in the glorious weather and excitment of it all. His only gripe now is back in NZ he is limited to a 250 till Christmas next year, when he can get a full bike licence. He scoots around on a Ninja 250 that I reckon is plenty for him. I can't keep up with him (or don't want to:eek: ) when we get to the 'twisties'. My sporty has been rejetted and the dyno reckons its a genuine 60 hp at the rear wheel, so I can get him on the straight bits.:D
Anyway, thanks to all the wonderful people we met in Canada for making our trip so fabulous. We can't wait to get back and maybe head up to Alaska. Devin and I are also contemplating what it would take to do route 66, Blackrock ,Sturgis etc. Any suggestions?
