Hi, I am in the process of restoring a 1960 Duo Glide Pan Head. I have made a couple of modifications from the original such as Hydralic tappits, electronic dristbutor and converting the primary drive to belt. These modifications have been made to ensure reliability and a smooth ride. The question I am unsure of is whether to put a reconditioned Linkert Carb onto the bike or convert a Harley CV carb. The CV carb is probably higher spec but I hear the old Linkerts are pretty reliable. As it is a kick start only I want to put the most reliable carb on it. What do you reckon.

i have run linkerts for over 20 years, and they are a reliable carb for the pan. they are simple to tune and easy to maintain, if they are built correctly. check the rebuilder to make sure he knows what is going on with them. the most overlooked place in building one is in the throttle shaft, there are bushings and seals there. a reputable builder has the correct tools to replace these items. also be sure the float is of the new type to resist the new fuels. the weight of these floats is a critical part of the carb. some new floats are heaver and dont set well. othere than that, have fun with it......now if you want to go with a cv, they are also a good carb, and they are easy to tune also. just be sure to change manifolds and dont adapt. i like the old brass carb on a pan,,,,,gives it class!!!!!! and they will last forever with proper care........have fun and let us know how it goes!! oh ya, that is my 65 pan flh in my avatar

Thanks Chuck, I think I'll go the Linkert way. I just hope the Harley Shop here in New Zealand is up with the play on Linkert Carbs.
    Cheers
