I have a Craftsman, 150 PSI, 1.6 HP, 33 Gal upright compressor that works really well in my shop....

I use it for all my air tools, and bike lift!! Never a problem...

Sanborn 5 h.p., 40 gal. vertical tank. Traded a guitar amp for it. It's only 50% duty cycle though, so if I'm using a d.a. sander or a spray gun I gotta stop & let it catch up once in a while. If you're buyin' one pay attention to the duty cycle rating.

I know I'm a little late here on this but mine is a Craftsmen 6 HP 40 Gal stand up, single stage oil-less system. Will run on 120 or 220 volt.

    Thanks FLHTbiker

That made me think do most of you use oil-less? I read that if you are going to paint with it that it might be better to use oilless. Does it matter?

    Call me cheap.
And i want a 60 gallon tank at least. I went to Tractor Supply. Think Lowes carries this compressor too. It does a great job. You also need to see how fast the recovery rate on a compressor is, especially if you use many air tools or paint.

But this is the one I had for 18yrs and gave away and got a new one.
If'n you watch you can catch it on sale.

Campbell Hausfeld 60 Gallon Cast Iron Air Compressor - 3310006 | Tractor Supply Company

I don't paint like Chuck does but do know one thing and that is water. If your going to paint you need to keep the water out of the air supply. Drain the tank everyday and a good filter system that removes moisture. The single stage oil-less compressors are cheaper to buy than the two stage. The two stage will keep up with demand better. Chuck could better answer the oil Vs oil-less part.

You can buy Plastic pipe and run it all around the walls and put fitting in them and brace them to the wall. You can also putin a water drain on bottom of them. That is the part I didn't do.
Then you got air fittin's in different places to keep the hoses off the floor and out of the way.
The brass air connections are the most expensive part of the whole job.
    Lowes has everything.

I have a Campbell Hausfeld with a 5hp, 25 gal tank, works well for me. On the issue of oil less units I know of 2 that have fried from heat. Do not know the history of how or why they got hot just know they did.
