All, some or none of the Premium kit?

    Greetings -
I recently bought a 2006 XL1200R Roadster, with V&H SS and a Screaming Eagle intake. I bought the Premium kit with the thought of getting as much out of the engine as I can. HOWEVER, the V&H pipes were way too noisy for my taste (including baffles) so I have switched back to the stock pipes. Sometime in the future I will upgrade to another performance pipe, but not in the near future.

So should I still be considering installing the full Premium kit or are there parts better left out of the carb for know? Since it came with multiple jets, are there some better suited for the stock pipes?
    Cheers,
    Gordo

As long as you have the kit I recommend installing it. Even with stock pipes you will still wake your bike and should feel the improvements over the stock needle and jetting.

Then again I might be slightly biased :p

Thanks. Deep sound is good, I am just trying to avoid "loud" which is a pretty relative thing unless you are trying to meet EPA regulations.

Works for me...I was not sure if there was "too much" for stock pipes. I guess I just do some additional "tuning" if/when I get another set of pipes.

I put the CVP kit in my 04 Roadster with Screamin Eagle intake and pipes. The directions were easy to follow and the jetting recommendations were spot on. I'm at maybe 2 3/4 turns on the mixture screw and it runs away from most other V-twin bikes in town. I went with a #46 idle and a #185 main, and I replaced the accelerator pump parts with those supplied in the kit.

I'm looking at the SE pipes as a compromise between performance and noise, but I don't see them listed for the 2006 bikes. One of the magazine on-line reviews listed them as the quietest pipes but they were testing a 2007/FI Sportster.

All I know is they were on my 04 Roadster when I bought it used. Screamin Eagle II is scripted on the back, #80424 is etched into each pipe on its mounting bracket. They sound OK, not too loud. Thinking of going 2 into 1 in future. Not selling mine in case the 2into 1 is too loud and annoying.

Yup -- I was glad my bike came with the stock pipes...keeping them in the garage regardless of what pipes I get. I've read good things about the adjustability of the SuperTrapp 2:1
