Started out this morning to go put a deposit to order a Thundermax Autotune for my SuperGlide.
Once that was done I decided to see if I could get to Angeles Crest Hwy.
I rode out 14 to Soledad Cyn. Rd. then Aliso Cyn.Rd. to Angeles Forest Hwy. took that to Upper Big Tujunga Cyn. Rd. to Angeles Crest Hwy.
I rode to Holcomb Ranch and had a bowl of chili for lunch and then back to Mt. Wilson Rd. Holcomb Ranch is currently open for business Friday at 2PM and all day Saturday and Sunday and closed Monday thru Thursday.
Angeles Crest Hwy. is currently open between Mount Wilson Rd east to the ski area. the road between the ski lifts and Wrightwood is currently closed due to normal winter conditions and will open soon. There is no damage to the road between Mt Wilson Rd. and Hwy 138.
The road is closed between y.Wilson Rd. west to La Canada Flintridge.
Angeles Forest Hwy. is closed between Big Tujunga Cyn Rd. and Angeles Crest Hwy.
The roads are in good condition with the exception of the bottom of Big Tujunga Cyn but that road has been in serious need of repair for several years.
The forest, I'm sorry to say, is gone except for a small area here and there.
Beyound Holcomb Ranch I can't say.

There was green sprouting at the base of many of the scrub oaks and a good deal of grass in some areas, The worst was the many dead pines that will take 50 years to grow back.
Of course a lot of those were gong to die anyway from the bark beetle.
Maybe the fire was natures way of controlling that blight.

    plumbertom,

I'm with chucktx about nature taking care of things. Time is the medicine.

I was stationed at Travis AFB base in 72-73, use to ride the country roads in the area. Had an old Honda motorcycle at the time, but i sure enjoyed the ride time and scenery. Very beautiful area. :D

Yeah, like I've said before, I almost never remember to take my Camera and even when I do I forget to use it unless I'm going specifically to take pictures.
But those burned off mountains were not very pleasant to look at.
The only really interesting thing to see there was the road and I don't take pics while I'm riding.
Besides this was just gonna be a road conditions report anyway.

I have to remember to take my camera along too. Sounds like PlumberTom is on the west side of LA and I live on the east side about 45 miles from LA. I usually get to the Angeles Crest Hwy from the Cajon pass and Wrightwood area. I decided to get to the A.C.H. from Azusa to see how far up the 39 I could go before I got to the road block from the same fire. Route 39 is like the middle of the Angeles National Forest. Here are a few pics on the way up.

These are pictures of the San Gabriel Reservoir and the Morris Reservoir. Both are along the route 39 from Azusa, CA going towards the Angeles Crest Hwy. The road block was about 12 miles from Azusa.

Thanks to Plumbertom for motivating me. I will try to get pics from the Wrightwood side. Hopefully the A.C.H. will be opening up again soon. The A.C.H. (or route 2) is over 60 miles long with perfect sweeping turns all the way. It was very beautiful before the fire. I may just cry when I see it now. But, it will come back.

I could have told you that Hwy 38 is closed to Hwy 2 has been for years. I don't think there is any plan to ever reopen it.
