I have one ignition key for my 81 FLH. I thought I'd get a spare, in case I lost the one I have. Went to the H/D Dealer, parts looked the key number up, sorry we don't have one. They then checked all of the dealers in the States, no good. They then checked for the complete knob, no good. They found the parts had been obsoleted. The parts man, then checked his after market sources, no luck there either. By the way, the key number is 084, if some one has a key and no bike. It seems H/D has the only blanks for the keys, lock smiths are no help.
I was wondering if there was some one sitting on obsolete parts or is there some alternative to my situation?
    Thanks,
    Bill:banghead:

I'm sure you've thought of this but, what about a new (or used) ignition switch, with keys?

A new switch assy. is not available either from OEM or after market. I expect a used switch assy. would work, if it had two keys, which is what I want to end up with. I'll check on line for a used one. No one has key blanks, evidently got rid of those also.
    Thanks for the ideas.

It's a flat key with cuttings on both sides, like the early Ford keys.

bill you might have to take your key & switch to a locksmith, & they can come close to the size & make it work , I did this with a old tour pack I had , took both the lock & one key the guy found a key for a Honda the same size & cut it ,had him do two ,worked out fine & I live in a small town so not but one locksmith & he's good

I've been to the oldest locksmith in the area, might be he didn't want to be bothered. He seemed to be busy. There is supposed to be another lock smith the next town over, no phone number, I'll run over there and talk to him.

No, it is like a knob that is oblong in shape. It has the fork locking fuction when turned to the left and pushed down.

Barrel (like soda machine) or key like in the picture

Either way any good locksmith (not a hardware store)
should be able to duplicate the key for you...

I've seen venders at Rallies and Bike events that make keys.
