OK, I have narrowed it down to two smokers that I wouldn't mind to have but I have no idea what the reputation of either company is so I figured that I would jump on the forum here and ask the boys from Texas.

The two pits that I have narrowed it down to are these.

    1. A David Klose Which would be this model. http://www.bbqpits.com/backyard_smokers/20x50_byc2012.htm

    2. A Tejas Pit. This specific model. http://www.tejassmokers.com/products/2040cc.htm

These two pits are very similar. What are the reputations of these two companies?

Was there one that stood out to you more than the other for any reason?

I do not have the patients for that and I don't have the right equipment. Faster and cheaper to buy.

That's not completely true, it depends on what you build, lots of guys build plywood smokers, using normal bits from local hardware stores, then connect their heated smoker to the wood shed.

You can then cold or hot smoke a ton of stuff, and it's not expensive, works out really well. One guy in CT did this, I'll have to find his pictures, and runs the traeger pellet smoker to provide smoke, then he has a heat source for inside once he wants to add heat.

Here are some home made examples

scroll down to see the wood sheds, kinda like an outhouse.
