So, I made it back from Sturgis. Had a good time. If I go again, will concentrate more on the rides in the area then the downtown activities....too many people downtown. Had a good time tho! Lots of VERY interesting people walking around and riding around! Got a few pics to prove it also! My ride back to San Antonio started on Friday with 650 miles, probably most of SD with 30-40mph cross winds, followed by rain around the Sioux Falls area....turning south, dried up and got hot. Stopped in St Joseph MO for the nite. next day was over 900 miles (have not yet gone out to calculate the actual distance). Was a long day, especially with temps over 103 and more with heat index. Every stop was drinking gateraid and soaking my shirt for the next sprint to gas! Made good time, and was home in 15 hours. Will have to go through my pictures and see what I have...will post a few on the board here! Did catch up with Tomflhrci98 for about 10 minutes...was also staying at Hog Heaven Campground....talked with Peyts, but was unable to catch up with him. Was a good trip...someplace in the neighborhood of 4200+ miles round trip. Was good!:D

The heat was killer. I wrote in my blog that Gatorade is sure to announce profits for this quarter. I found that I could soak myself and be bone dry within 10 miles.

Did you get any riding in around the Black Hills?

900 miles in one day! That's a lot. Glad you had a good time and made it home safely.

    I'm back too

It was a shame that I was not able to spend more time with Chris, but, it was good to meet him and see Chuck’s paint job. I got too busy with this crazy Canadian chick I met. That was an experience to say the least.

I was a bit disappointed in seeing all the trailer pussies outnumbering the “I rode mine” crowd this year. Where has the pride of owning a Harley and seeing the country from the saddle gone????? Some people have no clue.

I planned my trip at the last minute and think I did the best job this year. I went straight to Boise to ride through Idaho. That was a great ride.. about 250 miles of canyon/river riding from Boise to Missoula, Montana. I then went back to Yellowstone and Beartooth Hwy before I went to Sturgis. Had some good drinking in Sturgis before I left on Friday and headed straight thru Colorado to Utah to set up for site seeing in Utah, such as Brice Canyon and Zion. Great state. I also did it right by running thru the desert past Vegas and Baker after the sun went down to get home.

I ended up clocking just over 4,100 miles for the week.. Best part was meeting the REAL RIDERS along the way.:D

Yup....did Needles Highway, saw Mt Rushmore, Custer Park ect on one day. That was all a nice ride. Another day we did the Spearfish canyon run and ended up with a nice little run into Wyoming for Devils Tower. Ended up doing a 250 mile "joy ride" that day!! Wanted to do the Badlands near Wall, but just didn't have the time. Like I said, next time will concentrate MORE on the rides....I am QUITE sure there is more there to see that I missed.

900+ miles in one day was a long haul...would not have been so bad if it would have been a bit cooler. my shirts were generally dry in 10-30 miles also...but sure did feel good for the first few!!!

I did half the mileage in the same amount of time. It seemed a little quieter there this year....which made for some better riding..less congestion. but couple of points....lots of trailers..but no more than the past few years..less custom bikes on Main....lots and lots of baggers, I was surprised at the number of Road Glides on the road there. seems more and more folks are wearing helmets..lots still don't but ...different crowd nowadays. got some pics but have to figure out how to put them up here.
Still a good number of shakey riders out there. I got a chance to ride some '08's at Rapid. I know Goose ain't a fan of ABS but Harley has really got their version sorted out on the FL's....you really got get on 'em before the computer takes over...for what it's worth, I was really impressed. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to hook up with you guys that went there but it was short notice for me..and a short time there..but I gotta ask, who's this crazy gal from Canada?

    You been waiting patiently huh?:D
Unfortunately its not quite what you may be thinking.

I won’t name names because we kinda still keep in touch.
Here is the deal though. Some girls have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to guys. This girl is a Tomboy and she has to ride faster than everybody. This gets annoying and from my stand point, very dangerous. She was passing everyone on the Spearfish Canyon road like she was in a race. I tried to get her to relax but you know how that went. :fight:

The funny contradiction was the fact that she would be speeding around everyone in a frilly lace blouse, short pig tails and a pink do rag. It was funny to watch (from behind as always). She looked like Orphan Anne on a Harley with the pigtails flappin in the wind. :roflmao: She lost at least three do rags that day.

The sad thing is I really think she is going to kill herself.

I broomed them after the second day. She had a friend with her too so there where two crazy Canadian chicks and I got a bit annoyed. Especially when I knew I wasn’t going to get any.:p Oh well nothing for me this year.

At least they weren’t trailer pussies. They rode in from somewhere up north. (You know how we Staties don't know nuthin 'bout Canada ???) She has a 07 Road King Custom and her friend has a 07 Dyna

I posted some pictures. I suck at taking pictures and all of mine are side of the road stuff. I didn't see any painted ladies this year but I didn't hang around town as much this year either.
Oh well, I hope you like what I posted.

Geez, all the guys I met on the road and I didn't get any either. What's up with that? I must be getting old. Or maybe it's the sobriety. :roflmao:

Everyone was so amazed to learn that I rode the whole way. Standard conversation (and what I was thinking):

    Where are you going?

To California and then back to New Hampshire.

Are you riding the whole way?

Yes. (No, I'm carrying half my worldly belongings for fun)

    And you're by yourself?

Uh-huh. (No, I'm with my invisible friend)

    You're very brave.

No, just crazy. (Take a chance sometime buddy)

Yep. "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand."

How was Devil's Tower? I rode by the exit but had spent way more time in the Black Hills than I had planned on, so I didn't stop.

Devils Tower was cool....we didn't go all the way up to it, as it was getting late and costs money.... I did get a couple very cool pictures, and the ride was beautiful!
