Here is a question for everyone. I have had a set of V/H longshots on my Heritage for a while. I love the sounds they produce, but I also have the baffles out. I of course notice less power riding two up, but hate to give the sound. I have heard of bikers putting Power cones in bikes running with out baffles to bring back low end power. Any suggestions? Any one used Power cones before?

    me too

i run long shots with buffles in my 06 heritage and love them.over time (14,000 mis i've noted they are getting a more thoaty rumble. i'm dying to pull the buffles, but am told i will lose some power. as far as cones go i've been told they are designed for the evo engines. ken has some good ideas for this back when i asked the same question. haven't tryed it yet, but it looks like a great idea i can't wait to try it. i'm sure ken might just send this design again. or maybe some other ideas.

    Baffles vs Power Cones

Skull2007, appreciate the info. I see from the other threads that this issue has been hashed out before. I put my baffle back in today, but I don't think I can leave them in. I miss the sound when I let off my thottle or when I goose her:( . My heritage has the 80 evo so the cones may help. I think my main concern is doing damage to the engine.

You can put in a set of AR cones but they won't be the same as having the baffles in. Power cones (or AR cones) simply prevent reversion from entering back through the exhaust valves, whereas the baffles prevent reversion or waves from moving back up through the head pipes. The cones will help more than not having anything at all but you will still have low end torque loss.

There was a post here somewhere with a diagram showing how to install a DIY baffle using a washer. This mod still barks really loud. If I find it I'll post it back here.

BTW, still haven't gotten around to finishing that new baffle I designed. One of the days...

no i found it on a hyper link on this web site. i'm not thinking it's on HD's web site. what it does is give a technical break down of how our exhausts function

    Big City Thunder

    DK,

I have rode with my BCT baffle for about a week now. I can really feel the difference from 2000 to 3000 rpms. It has much more get and go than stock baffles and a whole lot more than with out. I was very skeptical at first, so spent about two days of riding with stock, with out and with BCT baffles. I am fully convinced that these are the real deal. The sound still nice and crisp during take and cruise, but I don't have additional rumble crackle on decel. I am OK with that since it should help me to save on valves. :)

I have the BCT baffles in my S/E double barrel pipes and they are deep and loud, unlike any other bike out there, never heard them in staggered though.

First those pipes kill the bottom end to begin with and yep I ran them with and without baffles,

Without it was so friggin loud guys wouldn't ride on the right side of the bike with me. LOL

Anyhow, if you must run without baffles here's a little tip,

Get a thumbscrew and two nuts for it.

Drill a hole in the center of the screw

now run a nut up the screw,
slide the screw through the old baffle hole
put the other nut on the outside of the pipe and adjust the
inner nut down until the wide part of the thumbscrew is as close to the center of the pipe as you can get.

Tighten them both down, use blue loctite.

Now you have some resistance that will help the bottom end power and will
keep police nightsticks from sliding up the pipes if you are checked.:roflmao:
