Anyone use Barnett clutches? I'm having a set of clutch plates installed and notice in the box the friction plates come in that Barnett says not to use Synthetic m/c or gear oil. they want you to use ATF or "light viscossity M/C oil with their clutches. Any comments??

Yeah HRK, that's what I'm thinking. I don't think my original clutch is disengaging completely any more. Maybe plates might be a little heat warped. Anyway qt 72k if it was a camaro or mustang it would be due to be freshened up.

That's a coincidence I'm having the same problem when the bike is cold. I have to do a complete clutch adjustment even though the lever is correct. I'm running Red Line also.

I have a set of Barnett clutches in my shop that I'll use when my present ones wear out. There's nothing in the box they came in that says anything about what oil to use.

I think I'd go with their recommendation, though.

YEARS ago I ran a heavy duty Barnett clutch in my 1100 Suzuki. It had extra plates and heavy springs for competition. One thing I found out back then was that Valvoline multi visc. dino motor oil made the clutch very grabby in all temps. I went to Castrol GTX multi visc. dino motor oil and it solved the issue. I've not used Valvoline in ANY of my engines since then. I just got suspecious of the lube qualities of it.

Got my bike back from my Indy at 4pm yesterday(dropped it off at 10 that morning). Installed new Barrnett clutch plates(friction and steal), Barnett clutch spring,ATF fluid in primary. Also new exhaust gaskets(I supplied). $388. Now when cold and I drop it into 1st gear NO NOISE. Very happy. Gotta get used to a slight increase in lever pressure. Very smooth possitive engagement.
