I started calling around for battery prices the other day. The dealership wanted $150 for a sealed battery for my 98 FLH. The indy shop I go to for tires wanted $140 for a sealed battery. I swear I bought my last one for less than $80 :wtf: happened to battery prices or am I just out of touch like my wife always tells me?

I went online to see about ordering a sealed AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery for less. Here is all the web sites I found with some price info. I am sure there are many more.

    ApexBattery.com
SVR $125 free shipping,Made by Westco

DennisKirs batteries say made in the USA w/the Westco name $138

    westcobattery.com diverts you to SVRbatteries.com
    svrbatteries.com SVR 30
MSRP $131.95, SVR Sealed AGM battery

    BatteryStuff.com
Scorpion $89 made in China shipping extra

    ebatteriestogo.com
Varios makes/models PowerMax $112 made in China

    batterymart.com
    BigCrank $81 365cca 66010-97 shipping $25, I don't know from where.

    bikebandit.com
Yuasa High Performance Maintenance Free Battery (YIX30L) $168.00
Made in the US according to the Yuasa web site.

    batteriesplus.com
Xtreme Permaseal High Performance AGM Motorcycle, ATV,
    Powersport Battery - XTA30L $103 w/shipping Don't know from where.

    Mandmcycles.com
    Yuasa YIX30L from drag specialties 119.00 +tax
    HD P/N 66010-97C AGM battery 119.99 +tax
    Shipping $20

I won’t buy the cheapest and I will buy US. I like the Xtreme Permaseal from batteriesplus.com, but I can't tell if it is made in the US. I think I will order from Apexbattery.com. It is a westco battery with the AGM technology (sealed from factory & pre charged) and has free shipping. I’ll save $15 from the my indy shop.

Anyone else have any better ideas?

I learned years ago that buying a cheap motorcycle battery usually results in buying another one in just a couple of years. I like the Harley batteries to. Don't know who builds the HD battery but have heard that Yusa did.

Today I asked a guy from work if he new of any other places to buy batteries. It turns out he has a friend at a indy shop that will sell him a HD battery at cost. It might cost me $110 plus tax. I'll see about this tomorrow.

I usually change the battery every 4 years whether it needs it or not. I think I forgot with this one and I must have 6 years on it and it won't crank very fast when the temp is around 50 degrees.

But did I miss something. Did battery prices double in the last few years for some reason????

When I was shooting black powder competition and doing the Rendezvous's we went through powder and lead real quick. Got a good stock pile of both right now, glad I'm not needing lead right now.

I did the mistake of buying a cheaper one, and did all the acid filling and charging non sence. never even called the stealership to find out a price, lucky for me my custom fit up was around the oem cables and the battery did not fit anyway. I went to the stealership and got a hd ready charged for only $10 more. mind you the original come from the factory battery that came on the bike lasted me 7 years.
