I'm gonna be lowering my '05 FLHTC, just not sure best way to do it. I'd like to hear some pros n cons from anyone whos done it. Lowering blocks, or different shocks or both?

I used shorter shocks on my EG....big bumps would bottom out two up but it rode well otherwise.

get the shorter shocks the blocks change the shock angle

If you are doing it for looks it's one thing but remember a lowered
bike will loose lean angle so if you like to ride the twisting roads
you'll find it drags quicker so you loose some cornering angle.

If you have issues with legs not reaching the ground I'd suggest
you find a narrow seat or lower seat such as a corbin or mustang
    and go that route.

HRK a real hard lean angle won't make much difference in Hawaii :)

The best way to do it is shocks will give it a cool look over there in the tropics. :D

Not trying to make it look better, just trying to make it more comfortable for me. My legs are the same as everyone elses...they reach from my a$$ to the ground. How ever my a$$ is closer to the ground than alot of other peoples is therefore I'm lookin to shorten the saddle heigth. Think I'll try the seat option first. I really don't want to give up anything on handling. I guess I could start riding with boots...rubber slippers don't add much in the way of heigth.

    Thanks Guys....Mike

Gee I thought you guys all rode in flip flops, just teasing:)

Seat height is also a good place to start and if not enough then go to shocks.

Question how many miles is it riding around the island. I forgot, was like way to long ago when I was there in Navy.

Not sure how many miles...don't want to know either. The answer would be depressing. It's about a 4 hr ride if you take your time. Sometimes we ship our bikes over to the Big Island. Takes about 4 days to make it around it. One of these days I'm planning on picking up a used tourbike on Ebay, flyin over and riding it cross the country and hit Sturgis along the way, then leave it at a friends house and dump it back on Ebay. But that aint gonna happen for at least 2 more years and thats only if I don't get my new wife knocked up first. In the past my mo has been to drown all offspring at birth, but I don't think I can get away with it this time  So I guess I'll just have to be real carfull from now on.

    Aloha...Mike

Had my engineer boots resoled with 2" lugged heels & thick soles. Every little bit helps. Lower seat. Might not have to change the shocks.

Now, if your bike was a hard tail, you wouldn't have that problem, right? ;)

you can have your seat modified, probably less money than a new one. Mean City Cycles did a great job on my seat, didn't get it done to lower it though, got it to stop hurtin my arse.:D

Harley's Reach seats are nice seats and they lower your seat height and width about 1 1/2 inches, and still have a nice passenger seat, sometimes can be found on ebay for $100.00. Street Glide shocks will work that'll lower it about 2 inches and will bolt right on.

Never heard of them before, but looked them up on the net and liked what I saw. Think I'll try them and then if I still want it lower maybe then I'll try the roadglide shocks.

    Thanks Guys.....Mike

With shipping from HI to the mainland it might make sense to
find a shop on the islands that does that work, or like someone
said a HD reach seat, or maybe someone who wants to sell a corbin
they are lower, narrower and will allow you to get your feet
on the ground, loose the flat soles and get some boots.

I'm with HRK finding someone there that could redo the seat or buy a seat that lowers you would be the easiest for you. I would imagine shipping a seat to the mainland and back would be pretty expensive and could take a long time. Hope it works out for you.

Joshbob I actually have a hardtail. Its a '79 FX frame with a weld on hardtail. I'm running an 80 inch Shovelhead with a 4spd gearbox. Talk about low...I'm actaully trying to get that bike higher off the ground...lol

Got a set of these coming in 54631-02B. As far as the seat goes...I was more or less thinking about buying a used one from Ebay and having it shipped to Mean City Cycle. Maybe I might luck out and score a damaged seat for cheap?

    Aloha...Mike

PS HRK...TY, I just read your post yeah no harm in checking them out. They are only 10 minutes from my house.

Hope you know if you lower yer bike you are going to drag the pegs or floor boards even more when you try to take curves.
you will have to change your riding style a lot.

CB I had to change my riding style a lot when I added my wife to the mix. It used to be me and my bike, now its me and my wife and my bike. She has found a precise spot on my rib cage to poke her finger into anytime she feels my riding style need adjustment. This basically happens if; I am riding too fast, cornering too hard or not paying enough attention to the road. It has been a steep learning curve. There were times when I literally had black and blue on my rib cage after a nice long ride. But I think I've got figured out now. The rules are: Stay below 50 mph, never bank a corner at more than half the posted speed limit, never fart at low speed where she can hear or smell it and NEVER NEVER take my eyes off the road to look at a woman (unless she's fat old or ugly) The latter offense will imediatley get me a hard double poke on boths sides and if the distraction is a particularly hot one, I get a long prolonged burial of of both thumbs up to the first knuckle into my ribs. Her teaching methods while not very high tech has proven to be amazingly effective.

Maybe if I can come up with some narrower floor boards I might still be able be able to enjoy my bike on tight corners?

    TY....Mike

yeah the thing is when you lower it the side stand tab will hit a lot
sooner than you have been used to, right turns are better, left turns can get
ya in trouble, the lower shocks won't hurt a lot, just be aware of the changes
and get used to the reduced lean angle, so you know the speeds you'll
be able to accommodate, it's gonna be slower...
