After 42 years of accident free riding it finally happened. Went down during rush hour on my way to work 2 weeks ago. Going down wasn't as bad as I expected. Made the mistake of locking up the front brake when the guy in front of me locked up all 4 wheels while traffic was doing a leisurly 80MPH. My front end slid out and I hit the crashbar on the left. Was able to stab my left foot down and bring the bike back upright when the front tire hooked up and high sided me over the tank and fairing. Landed on my head and flipped to my back, started rolling down the fast lane and the bike split lanes without hitting any vehicles and slid into the center lane. The guy behind me stopped before He ran me over and the truck that my riderless bike passed was able to stop before hitting it. Was able to get up, pick up my bike and push it off the road. Got some real nasty road rash and sore shoulders, but miraculously survived. Got word from the insurance company that with over $13,000 of damage my bike wasn't totaled and I get to rebuild it even better. God was watching out for me. Only things I'm changing is my following distance and I'll always wear a full faced helmet cuz if I would have landed on my face I wouldn't be the handsome devil that my wife loves. She even gave me permission to set up her bike so I can ride it to work until my bike is fixed. Gotta love that woman!:)

Ouch! I'm glad to hear you're OK. Sounds like it could have been a lot worse. My first accident caused some changes in my riding and gear as well. Sometimes I think I'm looking behind me more than ahead - at least when I'm coming to a stop.

Man sorry to hear about the messed up record, not even to mention the bike and pain. Forty-two years, DANG. I hope you live and ride long enough to top it though. God speed on your recovery and fixing your bike.

If it isn't the jerk in front of ya, it's the one behind ya HUH Abby?

It is a catch 22 to read these threads. First I hate to hear of any of our family going down or getting hurt. Then again is serves as a wakeup to the rest of us, that it isn't if it's when. Me at a year in no biggy, NUB mistake. VYBR8ER though with 42 years and now boom. Serves to remind us that we are NEVER road safe. Keep them eyes open, heads up and rubber sides down.

glad you're ok and the bikes repairable..

That's one of the things that make me want to trade back in and get the ABS
the 09's front brakes lock up pretty easy, especially in the wet compared to my softail

    ABS would be a plus..

A real drag that you had the wreck, but really good that it was so "minor". Now get back in the saddle and ride.

Glad you're OK. I've hit the pavement hard in '71 a couple of times and have been lucky since. I don't do much city riding any more especially in rush hour as it's just plain stupid, I'm amazed more people don't get hurt here.

WOW! It sounds like you did dodge a bullet. I hate that it happened to you but glad that you shared it. It's good to be reminded that it can happen to anyone in a split second. Heal quickly.

Best wishes on your recovery. I took a spill in 2004, and rode real cautious when I got the bike back. Best thing to do for me was jump right back on it and keep motorin'. Hopefully you get the bike done soon.
