Blown fuse for tail light

I keep blowing the fuse for the tail lamp on my 03 RoadKing. I change it and it will last for 5-30 min. until it blows again. I tried changing the socket for the bulb, the board the tail lights and brake plugs into and the cord from the seat to the tail light. the brake lights work but the tail light wont stay lit.

Check your wiring harness under your seat, by the battery. Look for pinching or wear on the wire. Find the connector and inspect/disconnect/clean and then reconnect it.

I had a very similar prob with my 1999, so if your 03 is wired the same I'm thinking you'll find it there under the seat.

There's alot more that goes out when you blow that fuse, it is the accessories fuse.You will lose the speedo, turn signals, brake light and tail light, horn and cruise contol if you have one. The place that I usually find problems with the accessories wire (orange/white) is under the clutch perch or master cylinder where the clamp is pinching the wire. I generally find the bundle on the left side pinched more than under the master cylinder.:cussing:

On my 97 Eglide I would blow the fuse for all lights when I would ride in the rain, or go through puddles of water in the street. Found out that I had burned through the tail light wire harness inside the rear fender, apparently after the harnes came loose from the clips that hold it close to the fender. the harnes would be touched by the spinning rear tire when a load was put on it, such as a passenger or going through the water while riding though a dip in the road. This bugged me for a long time, diggin through the main harness etc. But after I had the rear tire changed the mechanic spotted it, then pointed it out to me and then fixed it. Now I am no longer a stock holder in the fuse company!

I found that the fuse was blowing when handlebars were turned far left. Thats when I took it to the H-D dealer. they removed the headlight and rerouted the wiring harness in the neck to eliminate the strain when turned. Problem seems to be solved.
