I am trying to change the rear brake rotor on my '99 fatboy. The bolts that hold the rotor to the wheel are on pretty good. So good that i already snapped a bit. I tried some heat, no luck. I might try a impact wrench next.
Any Ideas how to get those five suckers off.

    Heat

What kind of heat did you use? A good " heat-gun" usually works for me. Bic lighers, hair dryers, hot water, soldering irons and the sun dont work very well. :D

Have you got the wheel off the bike

If so reinstall, then set the bike on the ground, use a breaker bar on the wrench so you can add more tq to the bolt.

Heat it up first, they may have red loctite on them.

I usually hold the head of the wrench steady and put a lot of constant force not jumping or hammering on the end of the wrench.

A breaker bar will give you more smooth leverage. Just rotate the wheel so you can get to each bolt.

    bolts off

Never mind, I got them out. Had to use a little more heat than I thought but they finally gave in. It also helped to have a better quality tool. U.S.A.

Used a breaker bar with steady pressure both times.
the first time the p.o.s. torx bit snapped (low quality) and I needed more heat I'm sure. Then I bought a better bit and used lot's more heat and they broke free. Yes there is some kind of grey goop on the threads .After I figured it out they really weren't the tightest bolts I ever had to loosen.
It wasn't just the heat it was the stupidity. ;)

One of my techs uses a really nice pencil point torch. It only takes about 30 seconds to melt that loctite and viola! I am going to get one of them for my own tool box.

Home Depot and Sears as well as many hardware stores carry them. Actually, I think even Walmart.
