The brake lever on my front brake is not returning all the way, this leaves the brake light on. The master cylinder appears full and the brakes feel fine. my bike is a 2005 harley 1200 roadster.

Thanks in advance for any advice

if you want for a temp soulution, you can push the button in with a screw driver and push it into the housing. I did this when I was running no front brake and had the lever off.

if the fluid has not been changed, that is probably the problem. the plunger may be sticky. change the fluid in the master cylinder and front caliper/s....this is an easy job as gravity is your friend here. put some tubing on the caliper bleed nipples/s. then open them. keep adding fluid to the reservoir until it runs clean into your catch pan. piece of cake!!!!
as stated the return spring could be broken also...........:)

    brake light

My 06 Dyna the brake light came on all the time, I bought a new switch and when going to change switch I discovered that the switch was not faulty but had been pushed out of place, a minute to push it in with a screwdriver and reposition the small metal piece that holds the switch in and everything works great, now it well never quit or break because I now own a a new switch.

One other quick check, make sure the switch housing is pushed up tight to the master cylinder. If it is setting just a little bit back, you can get that danged lite to stay lit up.

As REED mentioned check the small metal insert that is bent in half to act as a spring to hold brake light switch foward, if switch is ok, position metal behind switch and put some clear silicone to hold in place, just a small amount. Other choice is the m/cyl piston not returing all the way back, if so try the bleed with new fluid, Harley does sell a m/cyl rebuild kit. Hope this helps.

I had this problem with my 2007 deluxe and the reason was the switch behind the brake lever. It has a weak plastic tit that your brake handle activates when you release it. The fix is 12.95 plus tax. Be careful when you install the new one as they are very easy to break.
