I will be ordering my 09 fatboy in the next few weeks. I am debating about installing a heavy breather, race tuner, and VH 2 into 2 big radius pipes. I was planning on installing after a break in period but then got to thinking some HD's come with this set up (close to it) from the factory.

I know break in questions spark a variety of opinions but I have to ask. Should I break in stock for 500 miles before installing anything or would it be OK to make the mods right out of the crate?

My advice would be to get the first 500 miles on it before modifying it, unless you've more money than ya know what to do with. That '09 96 motor will give you plenty of go from day one, and you may really be happy with it from Day One. Enjoy the newness of that ride as it comes to you - those first 500 miles on my new bike (in '99) were priceless!

I am a fan of changing pipes and getting it to be the way you really want it, but caution you on spending cash for that just yet. That bike will come stock really sweet. There are other tuning packages, though, that may suit your riding style better. As I don't ride an EFI bike, I'll defer to those that know more on which to recommend (HINT for other EFI riders - weigh in here!). You may want to buy other mods (like engine guards, which have saved my life and limbs more than once) before layng open your wallet for MORE POWER.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your time in the wind. Congrats on your new ride, too!

These Guys give great advice. I will tell you what I did. I bought my 09 road glide in november and I had them go ahead and bump it to a 103 at that time and love it! I can not give you a comparison to a 96 though because it was a 103 when I picked it up. The 103 has a lot of power compared to what I was riding {06 Heritage TC88 with race tuner}. I am Happy with it!

If it ain't broke don't fix it- Ride it like you stole it for the first 500 - then make you call on what you want.
Shop around and talk to everybody but you make the call - You are the only one who can say whats right for you.
