Well went to take a ride this morning and decided to see what might be loose behind the coil cover on my 96 FXDL, noticed a vibration noise last ride and it would stop when I held the cover (got the crap shocked out of me by the way when I went to grab it again and grabbed a plug wire instead I guess, not fun at 70mph down the road:roflmao:) anyway started investigating and both sides of the bracket that holds all the relays, coil, ect has broken off :gah:. Well a least by the time I finished looking they were both broke off. Rusty in the cracks so been getting that way for awhile. Probably cacked when I bought it last year because I can't imagine what could have happened to break it since I have been riding it, or even how it could be like that with no obvious indication of it being dropped or anything. Guess I will have to try and weld it back. Any suggestions welcomed, will try to load some pics I got with my phone. Hard to tell from pics, u can see the broke off pieces in pic 2, pic 1 & 3 are whats left of the bracket still attched to frame.:banghead: man back to working on it instead of riding, which I don't mind doing only prefer it to be to just change things and maintenance, not repairs.:(

if you dont weld, a shop should be able to put it back together very easy,,,,,then sand the welds down if needed, if not, i would leave the weld.

update, brother come over last night with his mig and we got the bracket welded back together, added a piece of 1/8" flat bar across the whole bracket to tie everything in together and beef it up some. Should be plenty strong enough, me or my brother still can't figure out what caused it to break the way it did. Will get the repair painted up tonight after work, and hopefully everything back together so I can get a ride in this weekend.:D

Got it painted and back together Friday night, took a quick ride around the block, no more vibration noise and running good. Getting ready to go for longer ride now. Talking to a friend yesterday on the deer lease, asked me if I wanted to buy his wife's bike since she don't ride it. 02 Road King police with EFI and about 30K miles on it. Said he would take 8k for it. May make a trip to Houston to take a look at it, been thinking about going to a bagger.:D

Awesome, glad you got it worked out. When you started this thread I was getting some vibration as well so I checked my coil bracket as well. All good there. I think that you would like the bagger, I know I will when I get mine.
