Hey all you mbike enthusiasts out there :D. I've got a Q for u all. My bro knows a couple of people who buy cars for like $1k. they're pretty crap lookin things but they lasted them like 3 years. Was wondering whether the same works for mbikes? would i be able to get a cheapy used mbike for like $500-1k and have it last at least a couple of years. Im only on my Ls btw. Look forward to hearing from you guys :D

My experience is it is just a little bit harder to do in the mbike world, but is still doable. If you get caught up in buying one particular make or model - just as in cars - it is going to be more difficult. But you can get some amazing deals on bikes that folks just want to get rid of. I've had two used rides, both great deals, and they were/are fine. So get out and get one and ride...........

Got two guys at work that bought 800 dollar Hondas this spring. One has been good with minimal fixes, the other guy's has been a non stop problem machine. More time wrenchin on it that riding it. It's a shot in the dark, but it can be done, same as with the cheapo cars.

Also keep in mind that buying a "throwaway" bike will give you invaluable experience on wrenchin. - Anything you can do to maintain it will help keep the costs down when you move up to some of the bigger rides - which in time will be your goal, as these things are definitly habit forming.
    Good luck on your quest.
