This is for a 2001 FXST (A buddy's). He has Wild1 Chubby's - 1 1/4" diameter (16") apes with new 1" risers. We have the new bars locked down where he wants to run them and needs to order the cables tomorrow, so we can get this done and back together next week. Per our measurements, it looks like we need to go +6" on the throttle/idle cables, and 4" on the clutch. 1st question) Anyone else running 16" apes and what length's did you go with, and were they just right, too short or too long? 2nd question) For same bars, how did you come up with your front brake cable length? The stock front brake cable is partially hard lined, and the replacement will be completely flexible. So, allowing for some flex, and the need to re-route and come up with a different idea to secure this, what length should he order? Any suggestions, prior experience?

    Thanks!

I am running 12 inch apes on a 00 heritage with stock risers went +6 on the brake and clutch, worked perfectly, used the stock throttle cables, they were fine with 16's you would need longer.

We stopped in at a local INDY last weekend, and they fortunately had an older Softail in the shop getting some work done. This bike already had 16" apes w/ 1.5" risers, so the owner of the shop helped us measure this guy's cables. Everything was +6", and the front brake line measured out at 52" or 54" (can't remember). He had everything ran pretty good/clean looking, and we got a great idea as to how to run the cables and what clamps to use.

Mean to say you'd need longer throttle cables than stock, +6 is good all around.

    Pics of the FXST

    Hey Skips,

do you have a pic of the apes on the bike? I am looking to do drag bars or apes and want to get an idea what they would look like on my 05 fxsti?

    Thanks

We just got done with my bike about a week ago. I went with Chubby's 501 1 1/4" T-Bars, SS cables, some added chrome, etc. My buddies bike is currently apart in my garage. He had some wrong parts show up, and has a cable still on back order. Once his is done (later this week?), I would like to get some side by side shots of both together. His is an 01' FXST, mine is an 05' FXSTI - both are black. Should be pretty cool to see the differences in both. Once his is done, I'll post some pics somewhere.
