Cams and Mufflers

    Hey Guys,
    I am considering swapping out my cams and/or mufflers.
    I am thinking about using the 203 or 204 cams.
    Which cam do you think will perform the best for my 2005 Ultra?
    It is still stock with the exception of a Screamin' Eagle air filter kit, a Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner, and Screamin' Eagle discontinued slipons. The mufflers are the offroad type with part number 64903-99?
    The bike was dynoed at 76hp & 82ft/lbs of torque. STD
    It seems like I have lost some lowend torque with these mufflers.
    Is this common with these mufflers?
    Also sounds rappy and tinny at speeds of 60mph & higher.
    Could these mufflers not have enough back pressure?
    I am thinking about switching to Rush mufflers with 2" baffles.
    I want better sound and more lowend torque.

    mag runner , are there any baffles in your pipes? I run the same type but without the factory baffles I have the big city thunder baffles top notch sound around easy on the ears sill here my tunes tilll I twist the grip a little to hard , only sometimes:rolleyes:

    Baffles

    Cowboy,

    I will try to attach a photo of the mufflers I am using and a photo of the end of my mufflers.
    I can't tell if it is baffled much at all.
    It doesn't look like a regular baffled muffler to me.
    Each muffler has two holes the same size and one small hole.
    This is the reason I might try the Rush mufflers because the baffles
    can be changed out.
    Their baffle sizes range from 1.5" to 2.5" in 1/4" increments.
    I can swap baffles until I get the sound I want.
    Plus, they might give me some needed back pressure if the ones I am
    using now don't.
    What do you think?

    Mag runner mine are a bit different , but your has baffelse in them should be enough back pressure , I had a guy ask me about my pipes a couple week back while at the lonestar rally he had a complets set of rineheart True dules & mufflers he did not like the sound at all , I'am running the V&H trus dules with the SE mufflers that are gutted out & the big city thunder baffles they fit in between the hearder pipe & the muffler not to loud or not to quite untill I roll on it :D But even them it has a good deep sound to it

    For cams I'd look to Andrews tw26 if you are not going to do the heads or big bore (95 inch kit).

    If you are going to do the big bore (which I'd recommend) then HD flat tops and Andrews tw37B cams will wake it up big time.

    Rush mufflers are good, couple of friend rides have them, not too loud, the supertrapp slip ons are good too, the HD slip ons are a bit more restrictive than any aftermarket muffler.

    I'll second HRK about the Andrews TW26 cams. They work great on heavy bikes and I have run them for a while on my own ride, begininning when the engine was still stock and still to this day after performing a 95" big bore build. I personally have never liked the feel of either the 203 or 204 cams, couldn't feel much difference above stock.

    If you do decide on the TW26 cams let me know. I bought another set for a friend who then wrecked his bike before we could install them. They are still in my garage new in the box.

    The TW26 cam is a great choice. If you want to stay with a HD cam, the 203 is a good cam for the baggers due to the weight, they are a torque cam. The 204 cam is more top end and doesn't start to come on until 3500 RPM. A good cam for more horsepower and top end is the 211 and it will work with the SE airfilter and slip ons. I have rush slipons on my Roadglide and am presently running 1 3/4 baffles to keep as much low end torque as possible but will be switching to 2 inch baffles to get a bit more sound so I'm heard when lanesplitting.

    Buddy has an 01 Ultra that a local shop stuck the 211 in, made great numbers on the dyno and up top,

    But under 3400 RPM it was a dog, he thought it was quick but he'd never ridden anything with more low end.

    I put in 37B's and it helped move the power band down a couple of hundred and then we 95'd the bike and it flys.

    JMO but the 211 should be in a dyna not a bagger

    If you want an even better cam, Woods TW-6. Timing is set up great for a bagger and it will even work if you go 95 inch.

    Hey Hotroadking,
    I agree about leaving the 211's for the lighter bikes,but have ridden a few hot-rodded DYNA's with them & still feel the duration is too much for street/intown riding.These bikes had all the usual engine mods including flowed heads.The Exh. note did sound nice though at idle.
    I would go with a .510 lift cam with no more than 240 degree duration on the Int./Exh. (just my opinion).
    Personally,I liked the mid-range performance from the S.E.-204's when I had my FXDWG,but really liked the S&S-570's after I went Nuts seaching for more giddy-up.
    I've been hearing some good things about the Mike Roland/ kuryackn "wild-things" cams.
    Hope you find the "right" cams for your riding style/bike aplication,00 wildglide:cool:

    refering to your pipes if you want the low end gain from pipes 2 into 1 top end gain duels anotherwords, street or hiway.
