    anyone got suggestions on which andrews cams to use on a 2004 FXD/carb and a thunderheader?

    Age old question, what cam is best for my bike.

    Age old answer, depends.


    How do you ride, one up or two up, touring or around town, there are a lot of different equations.

    Most folks want more bottom end out of the cam getting the bike off the line etc, however you have a lighter bike and can get away with more cam.

    IMHO if you are going to do the cams, consider getting pistons and having the cylinders bored out for 95 inches. No subsititute for cubic inches.


    A good cam from andrews that works well is the tw37B, you may want to consider getting the heads worked on at www.motorcyclemachine.com or short block charlies over the winter. Least cost good job, will help make more power.

    It's addictive so that's why I said might as well pony up the big bore and heads LOL You will eventually.

    YEAH WHAT HE SAID! only I'd do it right the first time and get the TW-37G not B...The G is for gear drive. I've read way too many horror stories about cam tensioner shoes wearing out in anywhere from 8-78,000 miles. You just never know if yours is going to be one of the early failures. I'm at 31,000 miles and sweating the days till I can afford to pony up for gear drive cams...cuz I foolishly fell for the dealers line of BS and bought into the screaming eagle 203's which aren't much better than stock by all accounts. If I'd have done it right the first time it woulda cost me an additional $250-300...now for new cams and the gear drive stuff 550-$750 and labor again too if I don't do it myself like I plan to. Don't be a goof like me and have to learn everything the hard way. :eek: HotRoadKing is right about short block charlies too (he's always right :p ) they do a basic head porting job for around $250.00 and everyone will tell you, that you need to free up the breathing to get the potential out of the twin cam. By the way that motorcyclemachine link is short block charlies web site I think....Yep I just double checked that. Good luck and remember to do your homework on forums like this and the V-twinforum.com before you start spending money. If I'd have found these sites before I got spending I'd have more power now and probably another $700.00 left in my pocket. :eek:
