Can Somebody help; Probs w/ New 2006 FLHX

    I have a new 2006 FLHX Street Glide. My problem is the locking and ignition mechanism on this model has failed. I went to start the bike by unlocking it, it unlocked and swicthed it to the start ignition mode. I immediately had power and everything worked, however after getting on the bike to start it, I realized the fork lock was still locked. How could that be if I unlocked the mechanism and started the bike. Yeah, I can start the bike and everything else works, I just can't unlock the forks. Any suggestions??? In the deep water ans sinking fast!

    My suggestion is,,, call Harley and tell them to come get it, and/or to come fix it.

    Could be the pin sheared or is stuck.

    The '06 parts say's "call the dealer" it is his problem.

    Yep tell them to come and get it (no charge)
    Fix it no charge, and then bitch that your new bike put you through this and how a $20K bike shouldn't have this problem and blah blah blah into a free oil change or service!

    Thanks for the input everyone. I ended doing exactly what eceryone suggested, called the dealer and bitched like a banshee! They finally picked the bike up about an hour ago, no charge and free oil changes for the next year. All in all not a bad deal I guess, it's just very difficult watching your new baby sit around with nothing to do and nowhere to go... Really enjoying being a new member hear and wanted to again express my Thanks, Thanks all. any of you all ever down my way (Huntington Beach) Southern California let me know so we cam ride together or maybe just have a beer sometime.

    Ed, sorry I missed this thread, I have some friends who bought a 06 Ultra and had the same thing happen to them, twice. They called their HD dealer who came out and picked up the bike both times as it left them stranded on the road. Lucky they were close to home and the dealer both times. I thought hearing this was just related to their bike but now hearing about yours I'm thinking Harley may have a recall coming up. I to bought an 06 Ultra and so far have not had this problem but I have not locked mine that much.
    This lock is a different lock than the older bikes, 05 and below.
    I think I'll check with my dealer to see if their getting many coming in with that problem.
    Glad Harley is taking care of the problem for you and it is to bad that you have to bitch like that to get it taken care of correctly. I know that the local HD shop here is pretty good but never know when your on the road. :eek:

    Update and thanks to all

    Thanks FLHTBiker, I'm hearing now that the replacement part may be as far out as two weeks and that the problem was the tumbler Key attached to the locking mechanism broke and must have fell through the bottom side. They the HD Dealer is also reporting this is the first time they've seen this problem. What scares me is how easily the ignition and lock come apart and right out of thesteering / fork shaft. If you look at the underside of the mechanism, while it its original position you will see a retaining key or pin, push that into the the suppressed position and turn the mechanism Clock wise, it pops right out therfore making the bike easily stolen.

    Wow, time for the good old fashioned pad lock.
    So if that does happen to someone can they reach up under and pull the lock out and still be able to ride?

    Tumbler

    Not quite as easy as you all are thinking, first you need the key to place the tumbler in the unlock position, turn the knob to the accessories position. prior to pushing the release mechanism under the swith knob. Then rotate the key tumbler with the key to unlock the the knob and shaft. Buy the shop manual and it is all in there!

    I pulled the ignition switch out of my new Ultra. Easy to remove as said above. I removed mine to take off the cover for the switch panel. I loosened the bars and got those adjusted for my arms and reach finally.
    I also cut the yellow wire and took the end from the spots switch and wired it into the Orange wire with red stripe on the accessories switch. This allows you to have your spots work at the same time your brights are on and when the lights are on dim. Never could understand why you could not have the spots on when the brights are on. I know for me traveling through the desert or some really desolate country the spots really help light up the road even with the head light on bright. :)

    One thing on the switch, leave it in the same position when you pull it out. I got my internal portions of the lock out of alignment and took quit a while to figure out how to get the lock back into the proper alignment. :mad:

    Corrected Statement

    VYBR8R was right not as easy as I thought it would be regarding the locking mechanism, turns out because the mechanism shaft sheared off, I was able to pretty much just supress the pin and remove it from any of the selection. i.e, accessories, start, etc.
