I have a 2002 sportster 883. I was riding in the morning. The bike was doing fine. I was parked for about 2 hours. Started fine. I got on the interstate and traveled about 10 miles and exited the freeway. When I pulled off from the red light the bike spitted & spurted and almost would not pull off. It was like this til I got home. The next morning it was fine til I rode awhile, stopped, cooled down a bit and started again. The problem came back. I have a K&N air filter & American Custom slip ons. 2 days ago I installed an EZ stage1 kit. The bike did great at first. As the day went on she started to faulter a bit. I tried starting from scratch again on the tuning, but she will hardly run now. What happens when you screw the mixture screw too far. I was not rough on it, I just dont know what is too much.
    Thanks for the help.

An intermittent problem like that sounds like it may be a little dirt in the carb getting into the jets then falling back out. Pull the bowl and take a look see.
    been there, done that :D

I had a similar issue with my 96 Sportster. What I found to be the problem was is that there was a lot of dirt in my tank and it found its way down to the carb. What I did was I took the tank off, drained it completely of gas, I must say that I have never seen such dirty gas, I proceeded to put Kerosene in the tank along with a chain and sloshed it around really good to knock as much dirt out as I could. I then drained the kerosene and rinsed the tank with regular gas. this work really well. I also put a fuel valve filter on. I did not have one because I thought that the inline filter that I installed would be sufficient, but it was not. I put some clean gas in, along with some seafoam and I have not had an issue since. Just a suggestion.
