I have an 89 fxrs with bub pipes and a screamin eagle air filter. I do not know what the jets are but I was told by the previous owner that he had the bike rejetted for the new set up. the bike does not have the cv carb. this is an upgrade that i plan on doing over the winter but for now i would like to figure out how to adjust the butterfly carb that is on it just so it works a little better for the rest of the season. the plugs are fairly light in color and it backfires on decel so it is my understanding that it is running lean? any help would be much appreciated. the part # on the carb is 27029-88

    Hey, Welcome from Cape Breton:)
If the plugs are a light tan colour I'd say its pretty good... the popping from decel is prolly from the free flow pipes.
If you'd like to get it checked out tho I'd recommend seeing Spider at Freewheeling Cycle in Charlottetown at 16 Summer St. He's an excellent wrench and a great guy.
I met him last year when my wiring harness got cut in 2 on the Blue Huron Trail by Badeque Rd(3 huge bumps) and shorted my starter and burned it out. A group of 4 "yups" rode right by me and gave me their meanest badazz down their nose look:rant: :fight:
When I got to the Harley Boutique there I was F'n invisible to them:rant: . Called my bud back here in CB and got the number for the bike club there and their reply was"we won't leave ya stuck man,if ya can get here we'll get ya goin".
Spiders first question was "wanna do it yourself?":D 'cause he was fixin his own tranny.
He opend his shop and toolbox to me and sold me a started he picked up on FleaBay for what he paid for it.
Sry for the non-tech rant, but bikers helpin bikers is what it's all about and I gotta highly recommend him. He should be able to get you a CV carb and manifold too.
