My 01 Springer started coughing-hiccuping a few times when riding. Seems to only do it a few times but happens on acceleration. What causes that to happen and any good easy fixes. I've had other bikes with carbs but none have ever done this. It also seems worse as the temp. has dropped.

Usually that's the carb needle. I'm a lot more familiar with Sportsters, but especially in the 2500 rpm range, the carb goes way lean for a moment & you get the "carb farts". I like the infamous N65C needle (H-D part #27094-88) but "kenfuzed" has a replacement too which may even be better. You'll never get a flat line on the A/F charts, but you can get pretty darn close with a CV carb & the right needle for the application, which will smooth that transition phase from low-speed circuit only onto main.
