Hi, as the title suggests, I am going to purchase the carb rebuild kit and a tuners kit for a 2003 883cc Sportster Custom, but early next year I would like to convert the bike to a 1250cc using the same heads. Are the regular 883 kit jets able to accommodate a future 1250cc conversion (since there's 2 in the kit apparently), or should I purchase some additional jets? The website doesn't appear to list the exact sizes that come with each kit, hence the question.
Just for history/information; I bought the bike from a guy who let it sit for over a year with old gas, and though I've ran additives and cleaned the carb mildly, it is still back firing through the carb with quick throttle blips, which I realize could be manifold seals, dirty jets, slider, etc., and crappy cold performance, thus I'm going to re do the entire thing and get it back up to new condition. I already drilled out the plug and adjusted the screw which greatly improved performance and absolutely no back firing through the pipes at all. Its been tuned up with new plugs and oil of course, only premium gas. There is a K&N filter and full, one piece Cycle Shack mufflers with baffles installed.

thanks in advance for any suggestions on the correct path

Since you are already using a free flow air cleaner and exhaust the jetting in the 883 kit will already be using the larger of the supplied jets. I recommend selecting the kit for the 1200 (1990-2003) which will allow you to use the smaller set of jets to meet the needs of te 883 engine and then when you upgrade you'll already have the next size up in jetting from that kit. This saves you from buying extra jets.

Thanks cowboy, I'll definitely keep the slider stock. I imagine if it was consistently a great thing to do, a pre drilled one would come in the kit. I just ordered the premium kit and the carb rebuild kit. I'm not sure what the difference in jets are between the "883-1200 conversion" kit and the "1200 only" kit, but I ordered the "1200" kit per recommendation of kenfuzed.
Who knows, I might be happy with the bike as it is after being a properly tuned 883cc (I ride 90% solo), though everywhere I've read they say the 1200/1250 conversion is great investment, and night and day difference. Plus I like to tinker with things.
