Have a 1993 HD Sporster 883 with 1200 installed. It sat for 1 year. Did not idle well but ran good open on throttle. Bought from CV performance:Carburetor Rebuild Kit - Harley CV Carburetor, Harley Idle Speed Screw, Harley Carb Premium Tuners Kit, (Select Model: Sportster XL 883 to 1200 conversion 89-06) CVP Velocity Needle, (Select Model: Sportster 883 or 1200 conversion 89-06), Harley Velocity Emulsion Tube, Stainless steel float bowl hardware, Accelerator pump cover screws, already has high flow elbow. Cleaned carb and installed new parts. Put 45 & 180 jets. Now it idles great and revs up great sitting still, but at 45 mph/1/2 throttle and more it sputters and then shuts down but will restart and idle fine. Tried the 175 jet no help. It did have a 180 jet when we started. Any help on where to look to get my top and working again?

How do the Plugs look, are they fouling at all? Did you check for seal leaks at the manifold? I used carb cleaning with a nozzle pipe to pin point the leaks, do it at high idle and brink the revs up higher and check it there also.
I just re-built mine on my `96 Road King and now it runs excellent with a 42 and a 175. I also changed my seals, coil and wires. When we moved from USA RI to the Azores what a headache with the Carb here. Fuel mixture was off, and think the bowl and valve really needed replacement and adjusting. After the re build The starting sequence changed, it used to start fuel choke, then pushed in all the way, now she is a cold bi**h, she wants to warm up more and run about 1/4 choke for a mile or so after starting at full choke. Thinking one size jet on the pilot may fix that but I am getting great gas millage 46 mpg 1 up and 39 2 up. The Gas here is 95 and 98 octane so it burns nice and clean, no ethanol or a lot of additives added.
The guys here where very helpful and pointed out a lot to check. I think I ended up with a few items than needed to be replaced as well while at it. 18 years, and 50000 miles should be expected.

I know that I am a pia, no reply and or more info= we can not help you. Does it fall flat at the crack of the throttle or run the bowl out in a short time (2-3) seconds?
