After an eventful summer, I have come the conclusion that I must chase my dream. After a lot of thought, my wife and I have decided that it is time to open a shop. For now,, it will be done on a part time basis until I get some small but very important items purchased, well maybe the items aren't so small, but they are needed.

If not now, it will never happen.

Welcome to the curse, err, I mean the dream. I highly recommend getting into a commercial building or none of the distributors or suppliers will want to talk to you. They all got burned by the garage builders years ago who all went bust.

Once you're set up give me a shout and I'll set you up with our parts as well.

    Good luck
So Bikes in the spring and summer
snowmobiles in the fall and winter?

Ken's correct, if you want to get
equipment you'll need a physical location,
pawn shops might be a good place to get
friendly with folks to buy up tools.

I have pretty much the tools that I need except for a few things. Looking into those things now. Starting off part time for now but I will get there.

Wish you the best of luck. I had the same dream a couple of years ago after retirement from my job-job. My friend thought that he owned the shop that we were going to use but his family sold it out from under him and that was that! Good Luck!!

My buddy Tattoo has opened a motorcycle repair shop twice in his life. Currently he does a lot of small engine repairs as well and says they are his bread and butter jobs. He sharpens chain saw chains and all other related repairs to lawn mowers, weed eaters, generators, leaf blowers, cultivators, you name it.

If you diversify, you'll have more business - at least that's what he says.

Well today another bike (customer) left my shop and from what I can tell, he was very pleased with what I did for him. This was a small job, but hey, it's experience and a money in my pocket. I do believe that that this bike will return for future work. As he picked up his bike, we were already discussing future work. I must be doing something right.

Glad to hear it. Good customer relations (and good work) go a long way towards building a business. Keep it up, brother.
