alright, my buddy wants to do a low budget build up on a 1999 5.3 Chevy Silverado extended cab 2wd. He wants to buy a used block and bore it to an LS1...he thinks he can skip the cam. Bore/stroke change heads???
I think his main concern is the bore and strength of the cylinder walls afterwards...i guess he's goin for a sleeper truck, because you won't ever guess it when you see it...two tone silver, stock look...computer programmer and beefed up rearend already with rebuilt transmission

if he is gonna bore/stroke and change heads, he would be foolish not to change the cam....sounds like a nice project. be sure the block is checked before starting work....line bore and cracks....

yes change the cam, I see where he is trying to avoid the lop of the engine, but to bore and stroke, with out caming and giving it air is like paying 8 bucks for a beer. nonsense

most newer 350 blocks can only be bored out .030 , that makes it a 355 no power in that, if you make it a stroker motor you have to change the crank and rods and have machine work done , that will make it a 383. you want to change the heads, the cam and add a super charger not mention all the other things you will need to change to make it all work......this is not even close to a low budget build....thousands of dollars involved....your friend might want to look into a brand new turn key crate motor or find a used preformance 350....cars get wrecked but motors are still good....people upgrade to big blocks etc. I hope this helps

problem is its a 5.3, not 5.7...says he can get the block for next to nothing

sometimes the wrong starting point for nothing
    is more expensive.

I'd do a budget work up, parts, machine, etc calculate expected output
    to a full blown crate

end the end you might not come out ahead... parting it together piece by piece
