Clogged oil lines

    I went to long w/o changing my oil....:cussing: .I went to drain it...but only got the case oil out. The oil in the tank remained.....I bumped the engine and got a little more.....plzz help:( . Do I need to pull the return/intake lines? Anything helps.

    how long is to long, alittle to long is one thing a lot to long can be dire, to get most of it out with out dissassymble, a scavenge pump is out there I think I seen a link to it on the forum here to rougechoppers.com I believe. I would check it out if it is worse than that you might consult a dealer or prepare to do some dismantling to get the goo out. and there is always the possability that there is foriegn material blockage also

    wonder since if it's a fatboy, does it have the drain hose down from the tank?
    Mine's a 06 and it has that drain hose, good luck!

    How long has the bike been sitting. When was the last time you rode it or the engine was running. If the bike was sitting for a while the oil will drain down from the tank into the crank case. If this is the case, just start the bike and run it for a couple minutes to let the pump scavenge the oil back to the tank.

    Forgot to ask...what year is your Fatboy? Does it have an EVO or TC engine?

    check your manual, it sounds like you are not getting the correct plug pulled....there is a long tube from the bottom of the tank that attaches to the frame....it has a plug in it also. be sure the plug you pulled from the bottom of the engine was not the trans plug......hope this helps a bit!:)

    I think you just fixed this....no I do not think it was the trans plug, but I did not unplug any hose from the tank. It was an allen plug on the right side below the engine case but not the allen under the trans. I pulled it and got about .50 qt from it. I iwll check for that, and look for my manual while I am at it. Thanks! :D

    You shouldn't be pulling the plug from the cases be careful putting it back in.

    Softails hold all oil in the tank, well most of it 98% so start it and warm up the oil to get most in the tank.

    Turn off motor, get bike up level on a jack

    In front of the rear tire where the frame ends and the swing arm begins on the right bottom of the bike is a drain plug, its in the frame crossover behind the shocks, take this plug out and you'll drain the tank.

    Put it back and refil the tank with 3 qts, change filter, start and then recheck oil level with the bike on the side stand. Usually 3.5 qts is the max .

    Not sure if all Softails are the same, but the shop manual for my 02" Heritage says to check all fluids with the bike in a verticle position, not on the Jiffy stand!

    could be I have been working on a couple of baggers lately I think I check it on the sidestand now that I think about it.

    hint.....once you get it full standing straight up.....set it on the sidestand for a bit. pull the dip stick and mark the sidestand level.....then ya dont have to stand it up everytime to check it........hope this helps a bit.....:)
