Well, I am always looking to make my bike better, but usually not until I have to. I was looking around at Clutch Baskets and again, as always, just not up to date with the differences between all that are available.

If my clutch were to go out, can I use the original basket and just change the friction plates, or does the everything need to be changed or replaced? What are some of the better clutches available?? Is it real difficult to change the basket, I have never done it on a bike, this is something that I would be able to handle on my own.

    Not sure about sporty
but unless the basket is broken there
is nothing there to wear out but the plates
    and bearing.

All you would need are new clutch plates
and I would get HD SE plates.

OK, so why the SE plates?? Are you suggesting these because they are high perf OEM parts, or is it because they are good and perform top notch???

Yes, in comparison to others, you'll find they
work well, and the SE spring is stiffer

Again you really need to be making more power

    Are your's slipping?

Best way to know, get her in 3rd at 2500 RPM
and whack the throttle open, if it revs but doesn't
go anywhere or you hear the engine spool up
but you get a delay in power transfer you are slipping

You can even run stock plates at some HP
with just a stronger spring or VPC

No, just curious. I haven't been able to ride for like three months, but I have not noticed anything from my riding season. Like I said, just wanting to make things better, but will wait until I have issues before I change anything. :D

Yep, it is only 15* outside at the moment. It will probably dip down to about 10 for the overnight. This week has stayed relatively warm to what they were saying the temps were supposed to be.

HRK, I briefly looked at that link that you provided. I will give a better look soon as I am fix-en to hit the hay. Long day, a lot of school work to do tomorrow, plus I have a doctors appointment in the morning. Thanks for the link.

Almost bought one of those for the wife trike, got a 95 inch in it and the clutch pull was a bitch for her. Found the AMF device that fits under the clutch handle. Really helped reduce the pull a lot.

Is it better to replace the whole clutch or just the plates? I looked up the SE and that is just a disc upgrade form an 8 disc to a 9 disc. I did see that the material that is used is Kevlar. What are the benefits of that?

Well if you just need replacement from age tired worn plates
    then stock is fine.

If you bumped the HP a bit, then the SE plates and they should
come with a stronger spring, help the clutch bite and hold the
    greater TQ.

Unless you've bumped that thing up in the low hundreds on TQ and HP
you won't need a full clutch basket, it's just an aluminum basket, nothing
    to go wrong with it.

Plates and maybe a spring will be all you'd need and they
don't wear out fast unless you have too much power or
    the clutch setup wrong...

It's working great, Ken asked me to be the tester, no
problem as I sent him the request to get the app loaded.

Its simple you can use your Iphone, droid or blackberry
and pull up posts, message etc, just like you are on the board.

Nice to have when you can't be around a pc or laptops not convenient

So does that mean that I need to change the pressure plate as well? I am guessing that I am making about 85-90 horse with about the same amount or a little more torque.

First order for me at the beginning of my riding season is I am putting my scoot on the dyno to give me an idea of what I am making for power. I am going to give Bishops a jingle to pick their brain as well. :D

I would say if the clutch isn't slipping
leave it alone. At most SE clutch plates
and the pressure plate (spring) nothing
    more would be needed

I'm running a 106 with stock clutch plates and a SE spring
without the spring (pressure plate) it slips in 4th with
    it the slip is gone....
