I have a 2006 Heritage Softail. Recently the clutch cable seems a little jerky when engaging, although the clutch function seems to be fine. I was wondering if this could be caused by a dry clutch handle pin that needs lubrication?

Also wondering if the cables require lubrication. It has the braided cables, not stock.

    Thank you,

I have an '05 Fatboy (softail). If you never lubed the clutch lever and cable, NOW is the time. You will be amazed at the difference. Even only lube-ing the lever. Drop the lever and disconect the cable from it. I used a light machine grease for the pivot points of the lever. Check with the manufacturer of the braided cable. Some have teflon inards and I don't believe they can be lubricated with conventional oils. For my stock cables, I form a funnel around the sheath end of the cable sealing it with some tape. I used a light oil or purchased cable lube and squirt it into the funnel holding it and the cable up so the oil works it's way down into the cable. Re-assemble, wala! Some of the other guys may have their own methods of doing it, but DO IT. It will extend the life of your cable.
