Seems like it is slipping in 1st and 2nd gear. Bike is 2002 Ultra Classic, 95in big bore with SE 203 cams, MGS dual exhaust, 58,125 miles. Not sure if I need to rebuild the clutch or not.

If you are still using the stock clutch spring then I suggest installing the Screamin' Eagle spring. It is fairly easy to install and I found this a must after doing 95" big bore builds as the stock spring is sort of weak. It will increase the lever pull tension but most get use to it. Also might be a good time to change the oil in your primary.

Not jerking, just watch rpm's go up fast and speed slow. Just had primary fluid changed due to stator change less than 200 miles ago.

Do the clutch friction plates ever wear out and need replacement or are they pretty much good for the life of the bike?
I recently changed the friction plates of my Rivera Primo clutch 'cause I thought they were too thin but the new ones were almost the same thickeness~!

Couple of dumb questions from me. Did the slippage occur when the upgrade to 95 was done. [I did the 95 and chose to go with the stock springs..getting old and the wrists get sore] I'm guessing no. How is the adjustment on the clutch. Sounds like this came about recently. I'm with the others on the SE spring. Just make sure your adjustments are proper before you start tearing it apart.

No the 95 upgrade was done about 3 years ago. I just had MGS duals put on and they put it on a dyno and got the thundermax dialed in and it has a lot more get and go by the seat of the pants feel. This was about 2 months ago and it has just started in the last week or so.

I would re-adjust the clutch, put the heavy clutch spring on and see how she goes. Sense it has been this way for so long with the stock spring and now your running more torque you may have hurt it. Sometimes when they run em on those dyno's they put a lot of stress on the clutch. But I would still like I said do a re-adjust according to your Harley manual and put the heavier spring in. You do have a Harley manual, right! Good luck and let us know how it goes. :)

yes the plates will wear. it depends on how you use them. heavy on throttle and loads and plates wear quicker than riding slow and easy..................like cardboard!!!!!!!!! :roflmao:
