One of the two Harley Dealerships here in Colorado Springs has closed its doors, permanently. Owner said that Harley made him a deal he couldn’t refuse, he has consolidated the two dealerships into one and will sell the second building. Harley mothership is helping with the restructuring of the two and is helping remove the signs and preparing the building for sale. It is rumored that Harley made the same offer to 80 other dealerships nationwide.

These are hard times and probably makes more sense to have one profitable dealership than two struggling ones.

I was out near Pittsburg last week and decided to drop by a Harley dealer that I haven't been to before that was on the Map , 2010. It closed 2 years ago.

I think that there should be a dealership here in Minnesota to close. It just sucks, always has. I am sure that there were some sort of incentives other than the ones mentioned to close it. Could be a shipping logistics issue for Harley??

I wonder if they're trying to get the business back to where it was when people had to wait to get a bike. I had to wait 6 months. I hated it, but you couldn't find a bike on the showroom floor to save your life, unless the dealer was charging a boatload extra for it. At Laconia, they were tacking $3,000 on to the MSRP. Crazy. I went to work at a dealership starting in June '02, and then the '03s came out. That was the end of the glory days as far as I could see. I think it was the total opposite of what H-D was expecting.

It amazes me how many dealerships there are in the Denver area. I still can't remember which is High Country, which is Mile High, and which is Rocky Mountain without looking online, and one of them is very close to me. There's another one in Denver too... Freedom, I think? I've never been there. Seems like they were happy to get the dealers' money to open a shop and didn't think ahead.

You aren't losing your HOG chapter, are you?

No not losing HOG Chapter. Until about a 2 years ago we were sponsored by Pikes Peak H-D then it was switched to Colorado Springs H-D in hopes of boosting business there, when that didn’t work it was switched back to Pikes Peak.
I remember the old days of ordering bikes also, in 96 I had to go to Seattle and buy a new 97 Fatboy. When here I would have to wait until one became available. You are right it all changed in about 01-02 down here.
Even with CS HD closing I think that leaves 12 or so dealers between Pueblo and Cheyenne and that’s only 200 miles and half of those are right off I-25.
