Confused evo

    86 evo won't stop running after turning off ingition , only thing that helps is adding tru foam to gas but no one knows the cause. sounds like timing to me , nothing in my manuel.

    does it stay running or just run for a sec or two then stop ? big difference in what to look for , if stays running short in the ingition switch , if run just for a sec or two ,I would double check the timming & carb adjments

    A few reasons for run on...excessive carbon build up is one,wrong heat range plugs and sharp edges on metal in the combustion chamber(casting imperfections)...I've never really seen a bike go out of time,but you can check the ignition plate in the nose cone to see if it came loose and moved....
    With the year of the bike I would suspect carbon build up as the culprit...squirting a spray bottle of water in the combustion chamber through the carb is a cheap way to clean off excessive carbon....with the engine running on a fast idle squirt the water in but don't let it kill the engine...you'll get a lot of smoke and pieces of carbon out of the exhaust pipe...

    Is it running like normal when you turn off ignition or
    running roughly when you turn it off.

    When you kill the ignition do the lights and gauges stop working?

    If the bike keeps going like the ignition switch is still on, even though
    it's off, then I'd look to a faulty ignition switch or wire in that circuit.

    If the bike runs like the switch is off but it continues to diesel (run but very rough)
    it's running off the heat in the cylinder continuing to fire off the charge, no spark but the carbon heat, piston heat, this is what you would hear in the 70's a lot when cars would be turned off but continue to run.

    This would be an example of something wrong with the electronics an 07 GW on utube
    that won't stop even with key out.

    So it's either a bad kill or ignition switch (electronic)
    or it's dieseling and continuing to run on.

    Pop it in high gear and pop clutch it should die until you get it fixed.

    When you add the tru foam to the gas ,how does that help?? When you say it keeps running...is it doing like the Video HRK posted??or does it stop on it's own??
