That was at Sturgis in 2004. I saw it carrying the Hooter girls at one point, but didn't have my camera with me (middle of the day, who'd a thunk I'd needed it?) so I missed the pic. One of the Sturgis pic sites has in though, for the 2004 year, as I've seen it with them on it. Both engines run, both pull, not sure how they are connected though. It was hidden by the side panels. I even asked about it from the owner, or the rider anyway, and he wouldn't tell me, said it was trade secret.....

    "trade secret"

Yeah I figure you talked to the rider not the builder and trade secret sounded so much cooler than "H*ll, I have no clue!" Who wants to look like a dumb#ss with a load of Hooters girls aboard???

    Faux Engine

Found this interview of the owner/builder, Steve “Smokey” McGill, and according to him the front motor is a fiberglass faux.

CC: Tell me about the motors.

Smokey: The back one is a stock Harley Evo motor and provides the power. The front one is a dummy, for looks only. I found out about a company in Leavenworth that produces over 300 different fiberglass engine replicas. They’re normally used by custom builders to align motor mounts and such. Everything is in the right place, but it’s much lighter. I got a fiberglass Harley block from them and added real heads, primary cover, and other chrome stuff. It’s fun to watch people stare at that front engine and try to figure out how it works. It sometimes takes them a while to figure out that it doesn’t. Once, I even caught myself being very careful not to route wiring or gas lines too close to that motor. Then it came to me that it wasn’t going to get hot!

    Thanks, DeathWind!

That clears some of the questions I had up...Now, How tight a turn can he make? & if he's shifting in the rear, who's pulling in the clutch? How about braking? Very cool, idea...

Ok, that's what I get for listening to the rider. I did hear it run, but it was over two years ago. Did I mention it was in Sturgis, and there was Hooter girls involved? lol! Honest guys, I did see it.... it was beside the pink elephant...... :D

Come on...a pink elephant and hooters girls??

Click the link to the interview. It has a lot of interesting facts:

    1. The shift rod is almost 12 feet long, and it had to have proper clearance as it routed through frame components and still align properly at both ends. With amazing luck, it lined up perfectly. I was lucky on a lot of stuff.

    2. It took roughly 640 hours over about six months.

    3. It’s 19 feet, 6 inches long and weighs 1,420 pounds.

    4. CC: Does the stock rear motor have any trouble powering this heavy beast? Smokey: Amazingly, it gets the job done. I’m really impressed with it!

    A pink elephant....that's funny!!
