A few of us rode to a few of the many covered bridges here in Northweatern Oregon. I put 220 miles on the bike today but a great 80F day today for a ride. Oregon has the most covered bridges west of the Mississippi River?

That one looks pretty old and might be as your state been a state much longer than ours, but those covered bridges are kind of cool. We lead 48 riders on the NW HOG rally. We had riders from Australia, Canada and several other states. They all really liked seeing the wooden covered bridges and riding through them on the wooden floors.

This bridge is called the Durgin bridge. My buddies and I ran across it in the mountains of NH back in 1981. We were wandering around the mountains a few days before Laconia weekend (back then it was a weekend) and stumbled upon it by accident. I was the only idiot that was dumb enough to ride across then turn around for a buddy to take this photo. You see it only had 2 strips of boards for auto tires. The strips were about 18-20 inches wide. If I wandered off of a strip I would be on the floor stringers which were about 18" apart. That would have hurt. BI might know this bridge. It is not a tourist attraction and was built in 1828. BTW I'm on my brand new one month old Suzuki GS1100EX.

Good fishing on that river. One day me and a friend with our wives on a mckenzie drift boat caught and released 30 small mouth bass. True story.

Our bridges are solid wood planks all butted up to the other with no gaps. One bridge was asphalt paved but just didn't have the appeal of the others.

Most have all been rebuilt and one had been rebuilt after it burned down.

Back in the 90's when the wife and I were into Square Dancing they had a Square Dance festival at this wooden covered bridge. We rode the motorcycle down there with a group of other Square Dancers and had a great time that day. It had been rebuilt after it burned and now no auto traffic goes over it. It sits in a county park.

I just googled that bridge. It's in North Sandwich, NH. Next trip up I'm going to recreate that photo.
