I know I said I wasn't going to put loud pipes on this bike yet but my neighbor and I got bored the other night so we cut off the tips of my stock pipes and put on these used end caps that we had laying around. The sound is amazing. I'll have to try and get a video.

After the first short drive I realized that the fiberglass was not going to last. It was ripping up inside. I have since stuffed in some chicken wire and it seams to be working great, however, I think it will slowly deteriorate over time. Then I'll have to do something else. But for right now this sound is so low and loud, when you go under a bridge at 75 or 80 it pounds your chest. It's nuts.

I'm confused here. You have a top of the line touring bike with a top of the line stereo system and you want ear busting loud pipes? Why buy a touring bike? A no stereo road king sounds like a better bike for what you're doing.

I understand life is choices. Hope everything works out for you on the project.

Easy some times you don't want to hear the radio,

I got a buddy that rides an RG daily, 200 miles a day to
work, I don't think his radio has been on other than
the day they delivered it and showed him.

Sometimes you wanna hear pipes other times tunes.

Well, to be honest I can hear it almost as good as before. I use earplugs anyway and it's not that bad believe it or not. But these pipes right now are louder than I want, but I can buy stock mufflers all day long for 50 to 80 bucks on craigslist if I want to switch back.

Hey, its murica, i can doos what i wants.

I'm thinking of putting on some monster rounds on my 14 CVO. Problem is BI nobody else can hear me either and have had two cars pull over into me. Never had that when running loud pipes. You know the old saying "Loud Pipes Save Lives". :)

I've had loud pipes from the late 70's until 2012. I mean flame throwing open drag pipes. No more. For me i feel they are intrusive to other peoples right to quiet. And i enjoy rolling along quietly. Enjoying my tunes. Never had tunes until 2007....unexpected great addition.

I don't think its wrong or bad to have loud pipes, I had them for a long time. Didn't think a harley was a harley unless it had loud pipes. Older now i pretty much am conscious of how other non riders feel about them. At laconia you couldn't have a conversation, you couldn't here yourself talkng.

And I just think its weird to have a radio and loud pipes, for me. In the 3 years i haven't had them the only close calls i had i was able to anticipate it had a chance of happening. I understand the value of people not seeing you but hearing you.

Each to their own opinion but personally a Harley with a bit of sound in the pipes is not a Harley. The only reason they put those choking pipes on the new bike is EPA and that is it. The new bikes can't preform properly because they are all choked up. You put me a proper air cleaner on with some pipes then due a proper tune and they come alive and perform as they should.

What will the additions do to the mpg? Are the any stage down loads that make the mpg better?

My current 103 runs great stock. I put a stage II down load w/ 204 SE Cam in my 2001 Ultra. Great passing and from a dead stop but lost sveral mpg's doing so. 30-35 mpg 2 up on a 5 gallon tank got sketchy in the mid west. I average 42-45 mpg currently and with a 6 gallon tank woo hoo! I would be interested in if i could open up the bike and get better mpg.

With a good tuner the mileage should increase, mine always did. I gained power and MPG plus it ran cooler.

Instead of buying mufflers get the Fulsac cvo baffles

That way you keep your stock looking cvo muffler bodies
They have several sizes it's a DIY job

Thanks, so the 2.25 is just about right? Price is also right. I'll give em a call tomorrow. I am a member on the CVO site so that will work, again thanks for the tip. :)

cool, it's a an easy DIY, a dremel and a drill is all you'll need
with your lift you might be able to do them on the bike.

I had one stock baffle that refused to come out so I used
a big stick and persuader to loosen it up...

    Simple, remove end cap
cut off the two or three tiny spot welds (used dremel with sanding rolls)
    pop out baffle
slide in new, measure for hole
    drill hole
put in baffle bolt up and put on end caps

Been thinking about that for a couple days and usually if you gain more power you lose equal amount of mpg?

Maddog did his 2011 SE with a dyno tune, SE tuner and V&H pipes. He consistently gets 42-46 MPG and his power is 109 with 117 torque. That's pretty good for not putting in cams and all the other stuff. With that HP and torque gains not much reason to do much else as they run extremely well.
He also does not baby it either.
