Hey Friends. I got a twin cam softail with a cv44 carb. 95 inch motor branch heads with larger valves 590 lift cams 248 duration high com pistons roller rocker arms . Now to what is going on the bike cuts out at full throttle around 4500 rpm . I have changed jets from 185 to 220 with no help I have moved the needle from top to bottom groves with no help. if I put the 220 main jet in it runs great on top end but mid range is jerky and has a spot before the main jets takes over were it will cut out. any help would be awesome.i have tune a lot of CV with no problems:cool:

Sounds like you are running the bowl empty. It can't keep up. I just got done with a 98" with a CV 44 and mine runs perfectly.

Thanks for the info. but the bowl is not running dry . I can make it run with the big jet and with the needle at the bottom slot. and I have the float set right also.

Not so much about having the float set incorrectly but more of an issue of a long ranging wrist and bringing it to WOT.;)

Lol. I hear you jonny. I got the extended float bowl and pingle petcock. if I put the cv 40 that I have back on that stops the cutting out my old cv 40 has a cvp kit and it runs ok but the 44 should work great but for some reason it just don't.

I am running a 220 main, shimmed times 2 and a 46 pilot. Ok, if you are running the extended bowl by BW then you shouldn't be running out of fuel like you said. You aren't running stock ignition are you? What did you do with your wires? Did you upgrade them?

I would look to the needle as being too low
if it's adjustable move the clip down (raising the needle) or shim
it moving it up if it's not adjustable

also make sure the accelerator pump arm is properly installed

Thanks hotroadking, yes its adjustable I have moved it up and down with no help I can make in run real strong on top end with a 220 main with the needle raised all the way but the in runs bad in the mid range. this thing has drove me crazy. I am a diesel mechanic by trade but I have tune a lot of bikes before with a cv 40. but this cv44 has me stumped.

ok first off I hope your not putting cv 40 needles in a 44 they are not interchangeable . they are much different in overall length . I also have a 98 with a 44 . what I found that worked best for me . my set up is 98 fully ported heads 585 cams and 2 into 1 exhaust . motor is 10,1 with dtt ignition . stock 220 main stock 44 needle light spring to bring the needle in aggressive no shims . sounds to me like it wants to be on the main a little faster but does not like to be on the main a cruise all that much . pull that adjustable pos needle out of there go back to the stock needle set up and go back to the 48 slow jet if you changed it if you cant get the weaker springs I would get the cvperformance spring its shorter and lighter than the cv 44 stock spring that's what I run . yanks the front wheel on a bagger and cruise runs great. instant throttle

Hi baggerpaul. I have done put the stock needle in and same thing happens . I run a 48 slow jet and I have a 220 jet also I have everything from 185 to 250 main jets. the kit I got was for a CV 44. Like I said I can make it scream with a big jet but mid range is jerky and fuel mileage is bad.

Something doesn't make sense here. You said that you have an extended bowl kit on it right? Who's kit did you buy? (Extended Bowl Kit)? Also, who's adjustable needle kit did you buy? I have an adjustable needle kit from Cycle Pro. Please give us more information on what kits you are running. :D

The kit came from v-twin. with the bowl and needle & jet holder. I put it back to stock to see if that would help. but no luck.

Ok sounds to me like it's something else in the mix,
if it runs with a 40 then it's not the ignition or plug wires

inspect the diaphragm on the carb is it torn?
    what about vac leaks?

DId you check the Accel pump arm? Is it operating properly?

Ok My friends I got it now. the air vent had some hard crap in it. I had blew it out before but I check it again and the flow was very little so I soak it in the carb tank then blew it out it was kinda white looking . Bike runs great all way to the rev limiter. I would like to say thank you all for helping me out.

Man I thought it was a brand new 44 makes sense now you had very little flow past the air bleed you were not getting good flow from the low speed jet glad you got it worked out I could not understand why that carb would not be enough for a mild 95 inch motor with that jet set up iwas going to tell ya your getting air in some how beyond the carb . Intake seals or. Boot to intake. !
