I think I want to put a keihin cv carb on my '85 evo. do i need carb, throttle cables, air cleaner & intake manifold from a '90 or '91? or does anyone make a conversion kit (with all the stuff included that I would probably overlook)? Anybody have some helpful insight on this??? Thanks, y'all...

A good choice to upgrade, you'll need the manifold with the carb, not 100% sure about the cables and air cleaner, but the SE breather kit is not real expensive(not a lot more than buying a K&N filter) and works well and if your cables have been on for a few years wouldn't hurt to put new ones on there either. The carb and manifold don't have to be '90-'91 pretty much any evo manifold will fit. '90 was the 1st year for the CV on em.

I put a cv on my old fxrs, I bought a carb off ebay for 40 bucks, had to buy new throttle cables, the intake also came with the carb, but you will need that also, that way you can get rid of those junk compliance fitting intake seals, you will also need flanges and seals, and as long as you have the carb apart you just as well install a jet kit, and if not already done drill out the idle air mixture screw tamper proof plug so it isnt as cold blooded, that cv will rock compared to your butterfly carb, yes I think I got a screamin eagle air filter kit for a 91, when I bought mine the kit was discontinued so they had to do a dealer locator but did end up finding one Good Luck and Im sure you will like the CV. The part you need from a 91 is the SE air cleaner kit, It is the only one that will work with the style of breathers in your heads, Didnt mean to scare anyone, but is possible to run into some snags along the way, I wrench on stuff for a living every day and believe me if something will go wrong, it will, sometimes you just get lucky. Also one other thing on the CV carb the stock one has a plastic fuel inlet elbow and after a while the hose is on it gets stuck and when you take the fuel hose off it can break, so you might as well put a newer style steel or brass one on as long as the carb is off the bike I think they are like 7 bucks Todd

Hey duke , '91 they went to the head breathers, '90 was in the case with just backing plate mounting bolts in the head. You can put the newer Evo SE breather on but you'll have to use a couple of spacers and washers to allow for where the breather bolts come from the heads because the bolts holes are a larger diameter on the backing plate and about 1/2inch thick spacers. All because '91-up are head breathers and breathe thru the backing plate mounting bolts. You'll need longer bolts to mount to the head than yours are now,but its really no problem to do.If you can find a '90 SE kit it bolts right up.
