Hello, I have a '96 Buell S1 (1200), with Force AC/intake & V&H exh. Bike starts easily and runs generally pretty well. But, it could be better, I think. It pulls hard through about 5000RPM, then sort of breaks up slightly and runs not smoothly up to redline, so not much point in going above 5K now. Additionally, it pops a lot when closing the throttle, and spits through the carb sometimes at low RPM when twisting the throttle.

The previous owner said that it had a Dynojet kit in the carb, not sure what components that would be. I would like to get the carb back to optimum configuration for a S1W, since I plan to swap in XB heads & pistons soon for a little more punch at high rpm's vs the stock '96 heads.

So, what would be the best set of CV40 components for the S1(W)? I do plan to replace the intake seals when I redo the carb.

I had a 96 S2T. When I developed a carb problem it was in the manifold. Air leak. I had laid it down on its side and developed a leak I enjoyed the bike but glad to get rid of the bike.mine was cheesyly built and felt that way too. Trade in resale value was sh*t. Get some nice heavy duty exhaust clamps and new rubber seals for starters. image.jpg

Easy check on the seals, use carb cleaner with the long spray nozzle and you can pinpoint it closely. Check the needle on the jet kit and maybe replace it, pull the plugs and see if it is running rich or lean, can adjust from there. Are you running a CVO40 on it for a carb? The Popping sounds like an intake leak, should be fixed before adjusting the carb. A good cleaning of the carb could solve some of the problems after the seal leak. A lot of tip on replacing the seals on the internet, good one on your tube for a 1340 but the tips work with the 1200 also.
